Day 7

I'm counting today as day 7 even though I've taken eight pills. Yesterday, I threw up no more then 5 minutes after taking the pill, so I'm assuming I didn't get that dose...I'm hoping getting sick wasn't because of the Accutane, but I don't know! I can't imagine it hitting me that fast, but It's better to not just assume things so I'll bring that up to my doctor the next time I see her... Never thought I'd hope for the flu haha
As for my progress: my face is breaking out as expected, but it’s so different from what I'm used to! Ever time I look in the mirror its like my face transforms. I'll have a white head that will be there, but the next time I look it will be gone and replaced with another one somewhere else on my face. Unusually, I would have the same pimple and it would stay there for WEEKS whether I extracted them or not (prior to starting these meds). As for my chest, within the first 24 hours of taking the pill it was basically clear. The first time I looked my jaw dropped and I became so emotional! I was so shocked. I guess when I started I had already given up hope and I didn't really think it possible? If anything I thought it would get worse before it got better, and take a month or two for me to see results!
Before starting the meds, I'd reached a point where I was wearing turtlenecks and sweatshirts everyday to cover up my back and chest. I was so insecure I wouldn't even pull my hair up in a ponytail because I didn't want the back of my neck exposed and anyone seeing it. It's such a relief to final be comfortable in my own skin and this is only the first week! :)

First Day

Yesterday I went to see my doctor to set everything up. I'm currently prescribed one 40mg capsule per day with food (preferably a high fat meal for better absorption). The generic version of accutane I'm on is called Myorisan. Just took my first pill a couple hours ago, so I'll post more soon!

Hello everyone! I can't tell you how excited I am...

Hello everyone! I can't tell you how excited I am to start the medication. I've suffered from acne since the 5th grade so this is long overdue. Both my mother and sister have been on accutane three times (each time the severity of their acne decreases) and it changed their life.

I was hoping since mine was less severe then those in my family (they had more oily, cystic acne and mine is more dry, combination skin) that I would just grow out of it. However, this was NOT the case. In fact, upon graduating from highschool my acne became the worst it had ever been! I've exhausted all other options: experimenting with different varieties of OTC products, benzo peroxide, spironolactone, birth control pills, and several antibiotic that dermo's had prescribed (which I wish I avoided all together because I believe it made my acne more resistant to treatments).

I'm going to be starting Accutane the beginning of December '14 and should be on a 8 month course. Right now I'm trying to buy several products to prepare for all the drying side effects: chapsticks, eyedrops, and lotions and placing them in multiple locations (car, purses, and my backpack so I'm never without). My current routine is washing my face with either Dermalogica special cleansing gel (probably going to stop because its pretty drying) or Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser by Jan Marini (which I really like) twice per day. I moisture with Organic coconut oil, Curel Itch Defense (fragrance free) and Sweet almond oil by Now solutions which is supposed to be noncomedogenic so I use it on my face as well as full body moisturizer. I have dry, sensitive skin already so I'm pretty nervous, but I know in the end it will be worth it!

I haven't seen many posts of those starting on lowdose accutane (that's what I'm hoping my doctor will prescribe me) for those with mild/moderate acne with already dry skin (I only see those with oily skin put on Accutane). So I'm hoping posting my journey helps both myself, and anyone who follows along with similar skin. Can't wait to see my progress!
