Years Later, Other Surgeons Told Me "That's Beautiful Work" and Asked Who Did the Surgery

I recently had different consultation meetings with world-class maxillofacial surgeons (jaw specialists) for a different medical issue. When these surgeons found out I had septoplasty a few years ago, they said things like "that's beautiful work", or "that looks beautiful", and asked who was my surgeon. I told them Dr. Naficy in Seattle did the surgery. One of these maxillofacial surgeons explained to me it was rare to see work that good, for technical reasons I didn't quite understand since I'm not a doctor. When I contacted Dr. Naficy's office to thank them for the work they did a few years ago, the clinic asked me to share this online so others could hear about it. I'm very happy to help anyone find their way to him.

The story behind the "beautiful work" goes like this: A few years ago, I couldn't get any air through my nose, and a CT scan showed the blockage from chronic sinus infection had turned my sinuses into a dark dense area on the CT image. I underwent septoplasty from an ENT surgeon in Seattle to fix a deviated septum, but I still couldn't get air through my nose. I kept getting sinus infections. After that disappointment, I didn't want to mess around with just a regular surgeon, and asked around for the best PLASTIC surgeon in Seattle. Dr. Naficy's name came up several times.

Dr. Naficy examined my nose and told me that, in addition to a deviated septum that wasn't fixed, he couldn't even move his tiny camera through my nasal passage due to a bony protrusion. The protrusion may have been genetics, or due to a childhood injury, but it was undetected most of my life. Unfortunately, the previous ENT surgeon had left my septum too weak to support more surgery. Dr. Naficy told me he would graft cartilage donated from behind my right ear to reinforce the septum. After the operation, my right ear felt a tiny bit different, but it looked and functioned the same even though I wear heavy glasses. Most importantly, I could get air through my nasal passage and the sinus infections stopped.

Years later, the quality of the surgery has apparently stood the test of time because some very accomplished jaw surgeons were still admiring Dr. Naficy's work when they examined me.

Thanks Dr. Naficy & team!
