It has been approximately 7 weeks since I was treated with Miradry at level 5. I wanted to wait to see how the treatment settled in before posting a review.
Long story short, this is the coolest sh*t ever.
I am in my late thirties. I suffered excessive underarm sweating and odor since my early teens. I actually didn't realize it was excessive for many years. I thought everybody sweated that much, and that's why deodorant and antiperspirant are manufactured and sold. I just assumed my "body chemistry" was why those products didn't work well for me.
I tried many different deodorants. I ruined -- because I stunk up and could not fully clean -- many beloved clothing items over the years, many of them expensive workout clothes and suit jackets.
For years I had to change my top several times in a day and had a lot of extra laundry to do. I also did weird things like drive to meetings with paper towels shoved into my clothes so that I would not stink by the time I showed up.
I tried everything to get the stink out of my tops -- every kind of detergent and stain remover and natural home remedy. Meh.
One day in late February of this year, I was googling for a nutritional supplement that would help me kill underarm odor bacteria from within my body. Somehow, miraculously, the internets led me to Miradry. I didn't need to read much about it to know I was going to do it ASAP.
I selected Dr. Lawlor's office in Seattle, because it seemed his office had been doing it the longest in my region.
Joanie, the R.N. who did my consultation (and ultimately performed my procedure) was straightforward about what to expect. I booked an appointment for less than a week away.
I won't bore you with details that are covered well in other reviews. I had lidocaine shots in my armpits. On my right side, it was fine, but on my left side, it stung and made me twitch and feel a bit jumpy. I did get a sense of an elevated heart rate from the adrenaline. Or, maybe I was just thrilled, knowing I'd soon be free from armpit hostage.
During the procedure, I was able to relax enough to chat with Joanie the whole time. I wore a tank top and brought a loose-fitting turtleneck to wear home. I was able to drive myself home.
Later that night, when the lidocaine wore off, it felt like a cross between the worst sunburn ever and when I had my wisdom teeth out years ago, just with those sensations localized in my armpits. I kept icing and used the down time to do stuff at the computer. I took ibuprofen.
I only had 16-oz frozen water bottles, which were awkward and heavy to hold up in my armpits, so I kept re-using the take-home ice packs except for when I lay down on my back and could use the frozen water bottles more comfortably.
I wouldn't have wanted to do activities with my arms over my head, but exercise involving mostly my legs was no problem.
In the days after the procedure, I occasionally experienced the "phantom sweating" sensation other reviewers describe. It was really weird to feel like I was suddenly and annoyingly pumping out sweat like before, but then I'd check and find no moisture or odor. Really weird.
About two weeks after the procedure, I thought the sweat was returning. It was returning in a very small area (about the size of a quarter) on the right side only. I resumed use of an all-natural crystal salt roll-on deodorant (the kind you can get at Whole Foods or in the natural product section of a store). I have been using the crystal deodorant every day since, and I have not noticed any odor at all. I might sweat about 10% of what I used to, but in the right armpit only. No sweat at all in the left. In the right, all seems to have leveled out so that there's a small area about the size of a quarter that might sweat a tiny amount. It isn't enough to make a wet mark on clothes like before. And, no odor!!!
I could go back for the 2nd treatment to really kick it for good on the right side, but honestly, I am willing to wait and see longer -- I'm still very satisfied with the amount of freedom I have obtained from this.
Hair: my underarm hair is reduced by about 75% and it grows more slowly. This is nice, not having to shave my pits as frequently.
I still have a bit of skin-level numbness that I only notice when I shave my pits.
I am not ruining clothes anymore. I don't smell anymore. I can re-use my workout clothes before washing them! I am doing less laundry, which saves resources. I bought new t-shirts to celebrate, and they are all still in like-new condition. If I wear something and it is still clean, I just put it back in my closet and wear it again. This used to be totally impossible.
Another weird/cool thing is that now that I am not sweating excessively in my armpits, I stay warmer overall when it is cold outside. When I used to sweat excessively, that sweating would cool off my entire body temperature too quickly. Now I don't have the dramatic heating/cooling cycles I used to when my armpits were running amok.
My life is so much simpler now. This procedure has already saved me lots of time and money, not to mention just feeling more comfortable in my own skin.
If you can identify at all with my struggles with underarm sweat and odor as a constant nagging dark secret and crippling inconvenience, you need to seriously consider Miradry.
