Years ago I read a book, The Concise Guide to Dermal Needling Expanded Medical Edition In that book, the author explains why needling doesn't work for stretch marks. Among other things, the gap is too wide for the fibroblasts to "sew" the skin together. Yet, I was so desperate, that I gave it a try, anyway, especially because there are people online who say that after years of needling, their stretch marks disappeared. I started needling since 2009, stopped in 2013, read the book in 2014 and started again that year. I have needled every single part of my body where there are stretch marks. I have done the procedure in doctor offices, I have done it at home, I tried different needle length, I tried different types of dermarollers (dermastamp, single needle, electric dermapen, tattoo machine with a permanent make-up artist), I applied Retin A, vitamin C. You name it. No difference. Not even the slightest, tiniest improvement. I am a very objective and reasonable person, with an analytical mind, so, if I say that there was no improvement, you can trust me on that. Yet, to this day, there are thousands of reviews online saying that stretch marks disappeared or improved after needling. I think what happens is this: there is a placebo effect. Dermarolling and needling are very painful, so, people think that if it is so painful, it must work somehow; again, a placebo effect in that people are so hopeful that their stretch marks will disappear, that they end up believing they are disappearing; after needling, there is edema (swelling) and redness. These inflammatory reactions might give the illusion that the stretch marks are less prominent, but, once the redness disappears and the inflammation is over, the marks are there again; before and after pictures mean absolutely nothing. They are taken from different angles, different distances from the camera and, most importantly, different lighting. anybody who says that Bio Oil or some other stupid oil works to prevent or minimize stretch marks, should be arrested ???????????? I hate when people give false hopes. Sorry for the long letter. I hope the day will come where these marks will go away. I haven't gone to the beach in years because I am so embarrassed.

I agree with you. Your assessment and tenacious attempts at ridding your body of these unsightly marks just underscores how we would attempt anything that gives hope of eliminating them. Pain is unimportant.... After so many years of having severe stretch marks on my abdomen and flanks I was finally able to rid my body of some of them in the only proven effective way.....I had them cut out! I had a tummy tuck that eliminated a lot of them and just recently under went numerous surgical procedures in Costa Rica with the most amazing plastic surgeon. I told him my large stretch marks bothered me so much I just wanted them excised. He obliged me and now 5 weeks post op I am left with straight line scars that are still very red.........instead of the 3/4 inch wide, 3-6 inch long stretch marks. When the scars fade I think the results are going to be great. They will be flat and look like little marks instead of big ones...I can live with that! Some people are just lucky enough not to get them...then there are those of us who get them so bad it damages our self esteem for life. No bikinis for me...ever! But hey...they are a lot better after removing a large portion of them. Love your post! You understand!
