Dr. Kovak and Sculptra AWESOME!
I can’t help but research the heck out of most things I do and when it came to fillers, I was not going to go blindly into it. I loved the idea of the gradual effect of Sculptra as I didn’t want anyone (hubby included) to know I had done anything. I am 55 and had lost some weight and suddenly my face was starting to look so saggy! Who was this woman looking at me in the mirror?
My research also told me that the doctor was AS IMPORTANT as the product. I was terrified after reading some horror stories about lumps, etc., but I knew those were the exception to the rule and that there were horror stories to be found about every filler. I knew that finding an incredibly experienced doctor was the place to start.
I live in the Chicago area, so I decided to research doctors that actually train other doctors on using Sculptra. I wanted a doctor with tons of experience with the product ...in fact a doctor that the Sculptra company trusted to train other doctors. After reading literally hundreds of reviews on a multitude of doctors, I decided to go for a consultation with Dr. Stanley Kovak .
Now, I have gotten Botox for years from several doctors and one thing I learned from going in their offices, is to check out their staff. I wanted natural results. I wanted to look like me, just a little younger. At the cosmetic dermatology offices of some other doctors I used, some of the staff looked crazy, IMHO. Young girls with their faces so blown up with fillers, and completely frozen faces from Botox that you thought if they sneezed, their faces would surely explode. Lips like blowfish, etc. That is NOT what I wanted.
When I went to my consultation at Dr. Kovak’s office in Oakbrook Terrace, I was pleasantly surprised to meet, not only a sweet and professional staff, but lovely and “normal” looking people who looked great but not like inflated Real Housewives, if you catch my drift.
One thing I now know FOR SURE is that Dr. Kovak is an artist. He can look at a face and see structurally how to achieve the result you want. When he told me that my temples were completely hollow and I would need a lot of Sculptra in there, I first thought, “What? I don’t care about my stupid temples. I want my cheeks to look a little fuller and an overall lift to my face.” He explained that by filling the temples, you ARE lifting the cheeks. Youthful faces are shaped like an inverted triangle and as we age, we lose volume at the top of our faces and it sags down over time until our faces are shaped like a regular triangle...thin on top and wide on the bottom. I looked in a mirror and, yep. That was exactly my issue. I looked at pictures of myself 20 years ago and, sure enough, my face was shaped like an inverted triangle. By filling my temples and some at the tops of my cheeks, I should start to look like what I expect to see in the mirror.
After answering all of my questions during my consultation and telling Dr. Kovak exactly what I hoped for with my results, he agreed that Sculptra was the right choice for me. He said that I would need to schedule 5 appointments (due to my age), about 4 to 6 weeks apart for the injections. He said the results would be gradual. I was SO nervous!
Yesterday I had my 3rd injection and I can honestly say that I am so delighted with the results already. I now laugh at how silly I was to be scared. My first injection was in mid-October and by the beginning of December , I thought I saw some improvement. By Christmas I noticed that my makeup was easier to apply because my skin wasn’t sagging like before. I am turning into an inverted triangle again. I know that it is only going to get better and better!
I am SO happy that I gave Sculptra a try and SO happy that I did my research and found a doctor that is an artist and can see what needs improvement and how to best get you there. I can tell you that he will not lead you astray. Listen to Dr. Kovak and trust him and you will be so glad you did.
