Do Not get Sculptra

ORIGINAL POST

Be Very CONSERVATIVE with Sculptra

I am in late 40s, thin and the fillers I've had over the years started to look fake and never helped my beginning sunken in cheeks and jowls. I've always looked young for my age with no wrinkles but the recent bone or fat loss (?) had started to make me look older and tired. I have high cheek bones but my face tended to get to round or fat with fillers so I started to avoid them. I was excited about Sculptra knowing it would be my own natural collagen so felt safer. Long story short, I went to the best, got 4 viles along temples, upper cheek bones (not cheeks below eyes or adjacent to nose but did in hallows), along jaw line, in hallowing of cheeks, around chin and mouth. I expressed my concern of keeping my high cheekbones and not getting a round face as it has with fillers.. I noticed the difference after 2 months and I looked amazing and there was a definite difference. After 4 months I am bottom heavy, look puffy and don't have that high cheek bone look any more. Face has taken on a round/oval shape. :(. I am not happy and if I did it over again I would get TWO not FOUR viles for the 1st time, show pictures of your old face and stress the importance of not having the possibility of looking bottom heavy. I think they say 1 vile per decade and they might do more the 1st time but if I did it over I would do all those things and get minimal all along the bottom portion of cheek hallows and jowel/mouth area and more on top although the whole point of Sculptra is to fill out the hallowing. Bottom line really stress that you say you know of women that have become bottom heavy as I know i"m not the only one and stress all your concerns. I wish I had only gotten 2 NOT 4 to start. I am scared this will get worse. I might do it again in 2 years but not so much around in hallows to maintain pretty cheekbones or a little filler in my upper cheeks to camouflage the bottom heaviness but am not happy about it. It did look good on month 2-3 so BE CONSERVATIVE.

Thank you for sharing. I am in my late forties also and have seriously considered having it done this summer. You mentioned you had 4 vials done. Was it injected all at one time or did you go back a second or third time to complete the 4 vials?

Have you noticed any lumps or bumps under the skin (granulomas?)

I had 4 at once which sounded like a lot but he said that would be the standard for my age which I think sounds ridiculous and really should depend on each patient. No I have not had any lumps which is good. I had my heart set on doing this after about a year of not feeling other things I was doing weren’t helping with the laxity and hallow-ness. In hindsight I knew I was going to do this at some point no matter what but I wish I would have read more and stood firm at 1-2 viles and that I didn’t want to take the chance of it resulting in chubby lower face, too much in hallows and losing check bones. If I were to do it again I would have gotten only 1-2 viles and make clear to Dr. that although you want the collagen replacement you do not want any chances of it looking even more bottom heavy. It seems like it’s really challenging to get it w/out getting bottom heavy because in order to stimulate your already developing bottom heavy prejowels, they inject all along your jawline and back of jaw. I will post pictures. I do notice a difference a little in it making me look a LITTLE younger but I don’t look like my self and look weird. I will post pictures.

Are you still having sculptra complications? I am going through a nightmare. Is there anything that you can suggest to me to get this out of my face? I'm 35 years old, very healthy female. I eat well and exercise regularly. I had my temples filled earlier this year, and that was fine. I had 1 full vial spread around my face in June and 1 full vial spread over my face in October. My face looks like a blowfish, and my face hurts every day. I miss looking like myself. The nurse said she had never seen this in the literature or hasn't seen it before. I am currently taking an oral steroid. Is there anything that you can suggest to make the collagen stop stimulating and the inflammation to stop? I am devastated.

I am in the same boat. Do you mind telling me how it’s going for you now? I’m two months out from my bad injection

Puffy Lower Face

User Avatar

I am generally thin and starting to look a little hallow in late 40s but still liked my high cheekbones. The standard 1st treatment from what I understand is in temples, high outside cheekbones, cheek hallows, jaw line and nasolabial folds. After 3-4 months I was happy, at 6 month s my lower face is puffy and I have loss the high cheekbones with the cheek hallows filled in too much. I look bottoms heavy. I lot of people have success but I would be REALLY conservative the 1st time and only get 1-2 syringes and tell the Dr of hearing of this possibility so as to nit risk it! You can always get more!! I pray that this will wear off sooner than later!!!

I am at 11 months and I feel my temples and maybe cheek hallows went down but it is still very noticible in jaw line and left cheek apple. I recently started drinking collagen, MISTAKE. I feel like all of the sudden that has made it grown all of the sudden. I think we need the reviews of people that love it and continue to get it again and again over the years because the results didn't last that long for them! That will help and encourage us!!

Not Worth it- Chubby Face

User Avatar
Darla212
Not worth it!! Way too unpredictable!! After what I thought was enough research on Sculptra and looking up bad reviews, I had my heart set on getting it for my aging and skinny face at 46. The 1st (and only) treatment was 4 viles all along perimeter of face and cheek hallows, too much!! I told him I tend to get round face with fillers but he did not take that into consideration at all. It’s been 6 months and my lower face is chubby, lost my high cheekbones and look weird! I feel he did not spend the time listening or discussing what I liked about the younger pics that I brought in and that wanted to avoid bottom heavy look at all costs. My face looks like an oval and am hoping it is at its peak and will dissolve from here on out. I had my heart set on doing Sculptra for beginning jowls but in hindsight I wish I would’ve stuck with conservative natural fillers, micro needling, peels and everything else that isn’t long lasting. Sculptra is just too unpredictable especially if you’re overfilled!!! I would say no more than 2 viles 1st treatment if you’re going to get it but I would do ALL research and read bad reviews 1st!! I will NOT be getting a 2nd treatment and am hoping this will stop producing collagen now!!!! I feel so ugly and weird looking!!!
