I'm a black female with traction alopecia and had a hair transplant with Dr. Friedman. I tried castor oil, peppermint oil, and many other hair growth products. You would think in a state as large as Texas, I wouldn't have to drive to Arizona for a hair transplant. I am so glad I did. Dr. Friedman and his staff did an excellent job. I had no swelling, pain, or irritation. Immediately after surgery I could see some added fullness although I know my hair won't fully grow in for at least 4 to 8 months!!
I had a previous hair transplant to lower my hairline, while I was living in Baltimore. Dr. Vogel did an excellent job! I knew I would need a second hair transplant to add fullness. If I was still living in Baltimore I would have gone back!
I guess this is a double review for two great hair transplant surgeons. Dr. Vogel in Baltimore, Maryland and Dr. Friedman in Scottsdale.

I really hope my journal helps those with curly hair. So many black women suffer from traction alopecia and keep covering things up with extensions, wigs, and weaves. I was one of them. I decided to have a hair transplant cause I wanted to be able to wear my natural hair and not feel ashamed because of my thinning sides. I wanted to post my Preop pictures and my pictures hours after surgery.. Already there is a dramatic difference.. Look at the pictures and tell me Dr. Friedman doesn't have hair transplant down to a science. Please email me if you want further information. Suture Removed 4/14/2014

I had the sutures removed. I didn't clean the scar before I took the pics because I was so excited. The scar is still pinkish.. The dark stuff is the bacitracin the doctor applied to the wound. I'm happy with the results. I'll keep you all posted. Yes ladies, the doctor has to shave a certain amount of you hair for FUT hair transplant surgery but no worries it will grow back!!!

Thanks so much for this! I am really considering this procedure and am a little nervous. Quick question, is the hair taken from one place and moved to another?

yes with FUT a strip from the donor area (the back of the head) is taken. The hairs are dissected and placed into the front area. I put pictures of my scar from the donor area.These pics were taken 14 days after surgery, right after the sutures were removed. You can't see the scar. I'm amazed. My first FUT surgery left a scar so Dr.Friedman said we'd have to use another donor area. I was devastated. I thought I would have a bald patch in the back of my head but as you can see or should I say not see. The donor area looks perfect. I'm amazed. I have to ask myself did I really have anything done. I would definitely recommend Dr. Friedman. Please ask me any questions!!! Not enough women in particular black women post their surgery but I see more black women with thinning frontal areas than white women. Please let me know if I can assist any further!!!!

Could you tell me if the price of the hair transplant depends on the size ? and what a round about figure for hair transplants for women? Its hard to to come up with ten thousand dollars but I am so hurt by my bald spot i dont know what to do. Any further suggestions or information from you would be much appreciated this has really taken a toll on me mentally:(

No Dr. Friedmans price is the same regardless.. (for the FUT procedure). I totally understand how you feel. I have long hair but due to my thinning frontal/temple area I am currently wearing a full lace wig. but that will change in six months. I will post pics but you probably won't notice a significant change until month 4 or 5. I paid 5800 for over 2100 hair grafts.

I did my edges in Jan and am a lil disappointed, but see that you say to wait 6 months. I hope I see some good growth bz this was a huge investment.

Hello Darry, do you have any pictures to share? why are you disappointed, how much growth did you have. All the information I have read says you need to really wait 1yr to see the full results of the transplant. I am booked to do my surgery at the end of this month and would love to hear your experience as well. Thanks

Hi Lynn, Thank you so much for posting this review. I am going to get a transplant to lower my hairline and to fill in my thin edges. How many grafts did you receive? You price is excellent. I was quoted $10k for 3000 grafts from a Dr in Cali that specializes in black hair. I live in Texas and I cannot find a doctor I fell comfortable enough that they can work on curly hair. I am going to google your doctor. How long did you stay in Arizona? Thank you !!!

Thats about in line with the doctor in Maryland. He was great but there were a few things that Dr.Friedman did better. With Dr. Friedmand I paid 5800 for over 2100 hair grafts. I drove to AZ by myself (cause the hubby was out of town) and drove back by myself. I stayed one night in AZ. My face was not swollen. I purchased a hat from bigheads. because you'll need a loose fitting cap. I am amazed and pleasantly surprised at my experience with Dr. Friedman. I was very skeptical when I saw his price per graft. I thought it was a sham. I read Dr. Freidman's bio called previous patients and was confident. He has an extensive resume. I am so happyI went.. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions
