Scar Revision Disaster with Dr Sami Moubayed

Scar Revision with Dr Sami Moubayed

losthope22

I had a scar revision with Dr Moubayed 6 months ago for a scar that I have on my chin. The scar is now longer on top and bottom, I lost all the facial hair that I had below the scar and my chin is now asymmetrical. I tried addressing my concerns to Dr Moubayed regarding the contour of my chin on multiple occasions but my concerns were dismissed.

Dr Moubayed never acknowledged the problem that the surgery has caused to the contour of my chin however this issue was easily pointed out by another reputable plastic surgeon that I have recently met (the asymmetry can be seen in the photos).

During consultation Dr Moubayed advised me that a scar revision would be the best option and excising the scar will create a better looking scar. I asked Dr Moubayed if there is any risk that comes with the surgery, he reassured me that it's a simple procedure and that the scar will be a line. It was never communicated to me that the scar will be a longer line and that there is a chance I would lose some of my facial hair.

As a doctor you have a responsibility to inform your patients of all the possible side effects of the surgery during consultation and as a patient I have the right to know these things prior to the procedure so I can make an educated decision. I was never given that chance, I was rather given false reassurances that a scar revision would be a minimal procedure only to be told later by Dr Moubayed that my expectations were low. How can there be any expectations when the scar is longer and I have other complications?

How can any patient find a longer scar emotionally acceptable? This is something that I have to deal with for the rest of my life.

I'm sorry this has happened. Nothing worse than a Dr gaslighting their patients when they've mess up. Filler can rebuild volume loss and give you back asymmetry. I've recently had a conservative amount in this area to do that due to aging. It's quite a common treatment nowadays, just make sure to find a Dr that does it a lot. If you're willing to travel, Dr. Karimi in Los Angeles is great. The scar itself can improve with micro-needling roller at home. I'm using it with the AnteAGE home kit on some scars and it actually works. You can move past this, good luck.!

Can you please post an update? I would like to know if you had any positive changes recently. I have seen some bad cases on this website but yours is really bad. Looking forward to your updates as I am also planning on doing a scar revision in the future.

You should have gotten different opinions from multiple doctors, your scar did not even look that bad in the first place. I am sorry but I think your doctor took advantage of you. I can understand if the scar was maybe raised or indented but this is not the case. I think 3 or 4 microneedling sessions would have done wonders to your scar and if the color of the scar was an issue to you IPL laser would have addressed that. If you have the time and the resources I would advise you to contact a lawyer that specializes in medical malpractice, I believe you have a case.

I agree with this, the doctor should be sued. This is something that you see on the tv show botched.

I have been looking at your pictures for the past few minutes and I am yet to figure out how your doctor managed to mess up that bad. Unfortunately we live in a world where incompetent doctors can get away with anything and move on as if nothing happened..

I had something similar happen to me many years ago. I had a scar revision on a large scar that I had on my forehead, I ended up with a more stretched scar and a significant pull on my right eyebrow. My doctor however was honest with as me as he mentioned that scar revisions are risky and many times the patient end up with a worse scar especially if you are a bad healer. I still decided to do it because the scar was quite obvious but now I deeply regretted it. I am surprised your doctor even suggested surgery because your scar was flat and it was surrounded by facial hair, there are areas in the body that scar badly like the chest and the chin is one of those areas. I don't think surgery was necessary in your case, it seems like your doctor removed a lot of skin which has caused your chin to look asymmetrical on the left side compared to the right side. Also sorry to point this out but I have also noticed that you have a pull on the lower side of you lip, it's clearly visible in the third picture, is this something that you discussed with your doctor? Did you ask your doctor what was the goal of the surgery? in your case, laser microneedling and dermabrasion were better alternatives than surgery. I know how difficult this is for you because I have gone through something similar, I hope you are able to find the right doctor that can fix this. My advice to you is to find a very experienced doctor that does scar revisions on regular basis, you have no room for error anymore. It would be great if you can keep us updated as I am curious to see what the outcome is, if you don't want to post publicly you can send me a private message. Thank you and good luck!
