Deep Divot from Steroid Injection to Keloid?

I had a raised acne scar that was pigmented, thick, red, and continuing to grow on the side of my cheek. I am prone to keloids, so my physician informed me she would inject the smallest amount of a steroid shot to reduce the swelling and flatten the scar. I came in for a follow up, and I pointed out that it had started to collapse into my face and form a slight dimple. She tells me that it would fill up approximately 6 months to a year! I felt much better. But kitty visibly seems worse and worse, and much more noticeable. Wearing my mask covers it up, but it is even worse than my initial issue, and I am completely devastated by the trauma on my face. I am 21 years old, and I feel so frustrated and overlooked with the care and communication regarding such a sensitive part of my body. My face now has a DEEP crater that no amount of anything can hide. Is there any solutions further I can look to that is cost efficient and reasonably successful? I am not sure if it has any chance of filling up, it has been close to 9 months now. I feel very lost and desperate for real help. Going to the dermatologist was very expensive, and I’m worried they will send me off with another excuse without properly addressing the issue. I understand that fat transfers are a thing, but this is VERY expensive and I’m not willing to go into surgery for such a dimple caused by a dermatologist’s use of this steroid.
I am aware of fillers, but this is something I would have to use for the rest of my LIFE to make this appear normal. I feel sick whenever I see this atrophy in my face. It’s turned my life upside down. I have been applying a prescribed retinoids for general acne on this spot for new growth. But nothing seems to work. I am also taking more collagen pills than I can bear. This issue persists to deepen and dig more into my skin everyday. iPad any anyone has seen a case like this, bounce back? And if not, what would be a good suggestion to solve this problem? Thank you so much in advance.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had a divot in my chin that I had treated with filler and it has lasted almost 2 years. I'm not sure with the area yours is in if they could do that but it may be worth it. I wish you the very best.

I have to share my experience…I had a dent on the side of my face due to a steroid shot that was suppose to help a scar…it was injected wrong and that’s most of the time the reason it lol dent or the steroid is too strong. I kept reading up about saline injections well i finally tried it and the results are crazy good. I did two saline injections twice a week and after the 3rd saline injection I only had to inject less than .5 cc and my dent is 90% resolved. I still don’t understand the science behind it but I really think it helps rehydrate those tissues and creates some trauma allowing new collagen to form. I did my fourth shot today so hoping this will totally resolve it. By the way this was the most stressful thing I ever dealt with…Ugh still traumatized.

Hi, how is your dent going? Did it ever resolved completely?

Pretty sad story... maybe you should excise it?
