Dr. Barbour has sought legal counsel against me...
Dr. Barbour has sought legal counsel against me with regard to my post about my experience with her surgery. She claims it is defamatory and false and is threatening to sue me. I have changed my post to reflect the facts.FACT: Prior to Dr. Barbour's surgery I was an attractive 54 year old woman, perfectly healthy and had a lucrative career. She assured me that her surgery would leave me "looking refreshed and rejuvenated' and 'like I had just come back from vacation.' Instead I suffered severe complications. Post surgery - pictures enclosed. I suffered for a year both emotionally and physically not leaving the house because I was ashamed of the way I looked.FACT: I had a lucrative career, I was terminated from my position because I had to extend my original two week family leave of absence to 12 weeks. At the end of the 12 weeks I was still dealing with negative effects of her surgery to my face and neck.FACT: I had to undergo a second surgery to correct the results from Dr. Barbour's surgery. The second surgery was performed by a double board certified facial plastic surgeon. The balls under my jaw are gone, however the right side of my face will always be more swollen due to the parotid issue.Fact: Before Dr. Barbour operated on me, I was a whole person with a healthy parotid gland and two deep dimples that were passed down from generations on my father's side of the family.Fact: Post surgery from Dr. Barbour, I no longer have that dimple in my right cheek and I have significant problems with my parotid gland in my right cheek and my right cheek is always swollenFACT - pre surgery both my eyes closed normally.FACT - post surgery they both do not close, the right eye is worse than the left eye. I have a plug in my right tear duct to help with pain and discomfort. I must insert a thick lubricant at night. I urge anyone who is considering any type of facial surgery to please seek out a board certified facial plastic surgeon. No one should ever go through the hell I endured.

She ruined your confidence, self esteem, happiness, career, your face, your LIFE......
And the doc's only concern is her money and rep. I hope you got your money back and reparation for pain and suffering. If you give up, then she wins. You have everything to win in a court case. Many bar associations have pro bono programs staffed by attorneys who are devoted to share free legal representation. You should look into that.

How would I go about finding an attorney who would take this case pro bono?

I assume you live in Florida so just go ahead by starting to google "Pro Bono attorneys Florida" and you will have lots of choices. They each have a specialty in law (eg. immigration, arbitration, family law, work and so on) so if you're not sure which one to pick, just grab the phone and ask one of them and they will often be able to provide you with some names of lawyers that will specialize in doctor malpractice or at least can work for you to get some kind of reparation for the severe ordeal you are suffering. Keep all the evidence you have. Just don't give up. Pro Bono lawyers are very common and if I were you I'd definitely give it a go. This could have a lasting psychological negative effect on you for many years to come like post traumatic stress disorder.

Don't wait too long to take action. The faster you act, the better. There are time limits. This is just general information and knowledge and I'm not a lawyer so contacting a professional is the next step. All the luck in the world to you, dear.

Google "pro bono attorneys in Florida." A site for the American bar association shows up with a list of pro bono attorneys throughout Florida.

Malpractice lawyers work on a contingent basis if they feel you have a good case. Find yourself an attorney who specializes in malpractice not someone doing general legal work. I assume you live in Florida , where you should not have a problem finding a good attorney. Her threatening to sue you is a scare tactic. But keep in mind there is a statute of limitations on malpractice cases so find someone asap. By the way contingent means you pay nothing upfront after case is settled they take their percentage.

I just googled "pro bono attorneys Florida" and the second choice that came up was a site from the American Bar Association with a list of pro bono attorneys in various counties in Florida. I think it's worth looking into. Message me if you have any trouble finding the site.

She is just trying to cover her sorry ass and leave you high and dry. Whatever you do, please STOP her so no other unfortunate soul will suffer under her ill practice. This is just heartbreaking. Quacks like her should and must be stopped.
By the way, even though she doesn't have malpractice insurance, won't any lawyers take the case based on her personal wealth--home, savings, etc. Maybe you could sue for $100,000 or so. Even though you deserve a couple million.
