Hello all!
I am a 30 year old male who has been experiencing hairloss for roughly 5-7 years. As a teenager and young adult in my early 20s I had always prided myself on having a nice head of hair, so when it started to slip away from me it was all I could think about. I had spent the last three years periodically googling hair loss treatments, side effects, yield expectancies, graft counts etc and the longer I waited the more and more unrealistic I thought getting a hair transplant would be.
Finally about 6 weeks ago I took a plunge and visited Sante Medical clinic in Calgary, AB for a consultation. The entire staff was very friendly and happy to help, they know this is a big step for a person so they make you feel as comfortable as possible. I met with Dr. Bobby and Nafisa and they examined my hair loss and asked me about what kind of goals I would want to set. I told them I am getting married in roughly 14 months and I would love to have a head of hair again. Dr. Bobby went about resculpting a hairline for me and we came up with a game plan. At this point my hairloss had, for lack of a better word, grown to be a Norwood 5. Little hair on the crown, some in the midsection still remained and very sparse at the front. Dr. Bobby told me that since the hair loss was as bad as it was I wouldn't be a candidate for the ARTAS machine but I would be able to a candidate for the Max Growth (strip method). He said it would be a big procedure (at least 12 hours) and that we were looking at $12000. I was expecting it to be approximately $20000 so at that point I knew I was in. We scheduled an appointment for 2 days ago (Oct 10/17) which was about a month after the consult.
I arrived at the clinic the morning of the transplant and because everything had happened so quickly, it still hadn't sunk in what was actually happening. The staff made me very comfortable yet again, I was given my own room to change and keep my belongings, we went over the plan once again and we were off to the races.
The plan was to fill in my front section densely, use some grafts in the midsection to beef it up and then to put grafts into my crown so that it would mimic the midsection. I knew due to the the size of the procedure that full coverage was certainly off the table, the fact alone that we were going to put some coverage everywhere was good with me, I have dark hair and intend for it to not be too short so I could make it work. We probably got started around 8:45am and the crew of Dr. Bobby, Nafisa, Adrianna and Wilson got diligently to work.
I can't give enough praise to the entire team that worked on me. The positivity radiated throughout the room the entire day. This is a group of people that really love what they do. Adrianna and Wilson spent the majority of their day dissecting grafts with zero complaints. Everyone always made sure I was comfortable. Aside from lunch and 2 or 3 bathroom breaks it was full steam ahead for 14 hours. All-in-all my donor strip yielded more grafts than they had expected (4000+). They told me it was one of the bigger transplants they had ever done and they were so pleased, even after a very long day. I can't speak highly enough on how amazing they are and was referring too them as "rockstars" throughout the day.
All told my front section got filled in heavily, they had enough grafts to give my midsection and crown a lot of grafts and even resculpted my temples. It was even more of a success than I ever expected. The post-op care has been exceptional too, I went back yesterday for a first wash and check up and have subsequent appointments in a week and 10 days to check progress and have the staples removed from my donor area. Everything looks great!
I know it's still so early, and now the ball is in my court to properly take care of the transplant, be patient and hope for the best. But future results aside this team is amazing. I HIGHLY recommend going and getting a free consult from this team if you are thinking about a hair transplant and are in Alberta, Canada. These people have changed my life and I will be forever greatful. Thank you!
