The upfront meetings and care were very adequate...

The upfront meetings and care were very adequate and caring, the problem is that I had a very poor face lift, the skin was pulled up but the facial muscles were not and as a result I look stretched and also have what is called pixie ears, where the ear is attached to the check with no lobe, pulling the check and jaw skin up and the ear down, a Dr Spock look on the lower ear. When I came back to the US 6 mo after Dr Barrera's surgery I wanted his work to be evaluated as I was unhappy with the results of my 6 mo old facelift. I went to my Plastic surgeon in the US who had done an excellent job face lift 15 years before. As I was living in Mexico this past year, I decided to save some money and go with Dr Barrera who seemed to have an excellent reputation. My MD here in the USA, a top plastic surgeon in Portland OR, said that this current face lift, he was sorry to report, was poorly done, and would begin to sag and not hold up as it should. I had my US surgeon repair my pixie ears and being under a local anesthetic we talked about what he observed. He said it looks like each ear had been done by two different surgeons as they did not match and the stitching was completely different techniques on each slide. ( I was never introduced to a colleague of Dr Barrera's although I wondered why Dr Barrera had 'his nephew' sit in one of my follow up visits, it was not explained why he was in attendance) My MD here repaired what he could of my pixie ear mistake but reported that the drawn skin and stretched look could only be helped by either a further facelift surgery to correct the one I had done in Mexico or temporarily to have injections of filler or fat transfer to fill out my drawn gaunt look until such time as I felt ready to have the repair surgery. He was genuinely sorry for my having to go through this and would work with me about the corrective process. I wasted not only my money in Mexcio on the surgery there, but I lost any sense of feeling good about my face. I did not regain a fresh appearance, but instead I look drawn and tired from the stretched pulled skin. I am so sorry I did not come back to the US and have it done correctly. A huge mistake that I would hope you would not experience yourself. I have seen some of the rave review with photos, and I can now see the stretched skin over the checks where it was just pulled up and reattached without the muscles being addressed correctly. Don't do this to yourself. Save up and do it correctly with a well trained, highly rated surgeon who knows the latest procedures as the whole field of Plastic Surgery has improved over the last 20 years. My surgeon here reported that he does not use any of the techniques he was trained in 30 years ago, the field has changed so much and the improvements are so superior to even 10 years ago. Your doctor needs to be updating his techniques regurlary where the advanced education is required by the Board. Beware. It was my mistake to take a short cut, don't make the same one.
