Hello
Going to write as much as I can today...being that I had my surgery a few hours ago and am in a bit of pain.
I am a 40 year old woman who had been wanting a tummy tuck for a few years now. After years of a roller coaster of weight issues my whole life I finally went hard at the gym and lost 60 lbs about 4 years ago. I do fluctuate between between 5-10 lbs not and then but I have done a relatively good job of maintaining my weight.
What that weight loss did was leave me with extra skin that a million sit ups couldn't help.
This took a major toll on my self esteem.
Fast forward to today....
Tummy Tuck and Liposuction to the love handles aka muffin top!
I went in at 7:45 this morning...surgery was scheduled for 9:15 it was pushed back a little bit due to the difficulty of my lousy veins which caused a delay in starting the IV.
The surgery was scheduled for 3 hours but they finished in 2 hours 45 min.!
I woke up in a lot of pain...they did try to accommodate me but it finally got to a point where it was best for me to go home relax and take my pain meds before The good stuff wore off.
I am in quite a bit of pain as to be expected but in this moment is is bearable. (thank God for pain meds)
1 of the best tips I have seen online was to get a recliner to sleep in.. it makes it easier to stand up and use your stomach muscles less. The recliner I have practically lifts all the way up into a standing position I recommend this for anyone getting a tummy tuck.
I also have a commode this way I do not have to torture myself and hobble to the restroom.
I read a lot of people complaining about their compression garment and in my opinion it seems to help a lot and does not bother me at all the drainage tubes however are a bit gross to look at but I know they serve their purpose.
I feel extremely swollen and bigger than I did before I have the surgery and my husband's opinion he does not think so but maybe that's just me. The swelling has not reached my thighs yet which I read that is most likely going to happen. All in all my day one is coming to an end let's see how the rest of the week goes!

Day 2 PO
kaizen408October 24, 2014
Day 2 has been a tuff one. I had to have my doctor prescribe me stronger pain medication the percocet was not doing the job so he prescribed me oxycontin to go along with it. He stated on the phone day 2 & 3 would be the worst I concur. the swelling is just ridiculous my compression garment is literally digging in me it is extremely uncomfortable.
I strongly recommend anybody about to have this surgery invest or rent or borrow a recliner chair it has truly made all the difference in the world I couldn't even imagine getting up from a flat bed. Hopefully day 3 will not be as bad even though I have already been warned I would really like to stop having this pity party and get these drains out already!!!

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain. The pain will be better. For me, the pain improved after about 5 days. But the tightness and restricted feeing remains 5 weeks post-op...its a long recovery but worth it! Hang in there.

Today is day 4...the pain is bad but still little improvements such as being able to get up on my own to use the restroom without assistance. When were you able to return to work and drive? The swelling is crazy...I am swollen everywhere!

Hello there! The most important thing right now is to be very patient with yourself, your healing, and realize this is a very long recovery. Do not push yourself (this isn't one of thise surgeries). My dr allowed me to return to work after 4 weeks but I think it depends on what type of work you do and if you have any other procedures done at the same time. I also had lipo and a bbl the same time as my tt. i was cleared to drive short distances at 3 seres.
And yes, the swelling is crazy! Many people on here refer to it as swell hell. It varies day by day. Are you wearing a compression garment? You should post some pictures!

Hi thank you for your response sorry in the delay in mine.
I do have a compression garment I'm still extremely swollen I was only able to have one drain removed on Monday hopefully the second one will be gone on Friday. He left one in because I was so swollen he was afraid if he removed it I would produce a lot of liquid that would have to be removed with a syringe so that's why I still have this darn drain. It's depressing I long to take a shower I'm tired of these sponge baths.
I hate this feeling of being extremely bloated like my skin could not stretch anymore if it tried.

Hi there! I just had my two week post appointment today, got my drains out!! I wish I would have invested into a recliner
October 26, 2014
Hi I get my drains out on monday which will be 6 days post op.
I can honestly say I believe the recliner made all the difference in the world I also have a commode nearby so I wouldn't have to walk far. Today is day 4 post op and I was actually able to get up on my own for the first time to use the restroom without any assistance which is a big accomplishment the pain is still severe my doctor increased my pain pill dosage that is helpIng a lot.
Are you able to get out now..back at work..driving?

Hi there! So what I learned after day 3-4 I pretty much got off my pain meds and took Tylenol, and mussle relaxers. Reason being, constipation. I also started Arnica, which is a homeopathic, helps with bruising, swelling and stiffness. Can be found in a cream and pills. Doctor recommended to take prior to surgery and after. It took me about 8 days and I went to the store, pushed a cart, didn't Las long, it will make you tired, however wheel chair is the way to go

Yes the recliner truly has saved me. On Monday I was to have both drains removed unfortunately only one drain was due to the fact I am extremely swollen and my doctor was afraid I would still produce a lot of liquid.
Can I ask how you feel 2 weeks post op are you able to do a lot more you couldn't a week ago as far as driving, walking around, going to the grocery store those type of things.

Thank you for your response I'm going on day 8 and unfortunately I still have one drain that still needs to be removed my doctor wasn't able to take it out when he took out the other drain on Monday so hopefully Friday I will have the second drain removed. I'm still in pain for some reason most of the pain is in my back. I am taking Arnica in the tea forum I had seen a few people mention it I hope it helps with the swelling it's ridiculous how swollen I am. It has me a bit frustrated because I see other people post pictures that are post op around the same time as me and they look so much better than I do. :/

I also recommend a recliner! I had my surgery done Friday and wow...cannot imagine getting into a bed! Happy healing!
October 30, 2014
yes the recliner has been heaven sent I never would have thought of one but I read it somewhere online when I was researching things I might need. Fortunately my recliner actually comes all the way up to almost a standing position that has been a life saver.

Day 4 Post Op
kaizen408October 26, 2014
Today was a mixture of improvements and setbacks I could say the setback is I feel more increased pain when I'm up and about but at the same time I was actually able to get up on my own for the first time today without assistance which that is a big deal.
Okay this is a slightly embarrassing part for some reason I have been unable to do anything in the restroom other than urinate. I know the pain medication can call this issue & I've taken laxatives and softeners but nothing so I haven't gone number 2 since Tuesday evening so today I started a liquid diet I'm nervous to eat because I feel so bloated on top of already feeling super swollen.
my doctor notified me yesterday evening that he remove 10 pounds of skin which was surprising to me and surprising to him as well but I was happy about that the thought of carrying around 10 pounds of saggy skin is just depressing...sayonara flabby skin!!!

Just be careful to get your calories in with all that pain medication in you! I don't want you to be nauseated on top of all this.
October 30, 2014
they gave me pills to help with the nausea I haven't had to take it too much trying to wing myself off the pain pills but it's a bit difficult being that I'm still in pain and still have one drain in me that I hope will be removed Friday.

Hi Hun,
Hope things get better soon, and you have a continued safe healing. **Best Wishes to You**
October 29, 2014
I hope you continue to heal well. The restroom issue is hard but hopefully you will go soon keep taking the stool softners and plenty of water. I didn't go for 6-7 days after my operation. Xx
