RE: Question from TwoPlusOne

I was an artist for years... I should have looked friendly or at least intimidating enough but I didn't smile so people mistook that for bright, stuck up artist rather than friendly but self-conscious.

How long the results last probably depend on what you eat. I eat EVERYTHING. There's no way I'm giving up coffee or marinara sauce no matter how much better it would make my teeth look. I got comments on my "perfect" teeth for the following two years after which I would still get those comments for another three years but gradually less and less.

The pain from the sensitivity was really severe the first day. It made me not want to eat. The second and third day it was still quite bad. I took ibuprofen 800mg TID but I could still feel it though it. It feels a bit like having an entire mouth full of cavities. The pain was enough that the difference with the ibuprofen wasn't noticeable until day four at which point with the ibuprofen it became a slightly painful annoyance. It was gone by the end of the week. Everyone's pain tolerance is different though.... but I've had teeth drilled without novicaine and that was less painful to me.

There's a place that opened near me that is literally just a "whitening bar" for teeth. It operated much on the same premise that you need to get your hair trimmed every six weeks after that drastically new cut you got. They had a good Groupon deal so I'm going to try it again and I might even try their maintenance package.

After years of braces, I finally had them off but...

After years of braces, I finally had them off but I was feeling even more self conscious than ever about smiling since the braces left noticeable marks of discoulouration on my teeth. Unfortunately, even at my short height and covered in paint I've been told I come across as intimidating (except small children for whatever reason) when I don't smile. I was probably the healthiest and the fittest I'd ever been but the only people who would talk to me were over-confident, over-buffed kind of egotistical men... which unfortunately then confirmed that I was scary when I forced to reject them quite harshly to get the point across.

My mother offered to let me get my teeth whitened as an early birthday/Christmas gift back in 2007. It took me a while to get around to actually taking her up on her offer. However, I was happy that I finally did! The procedure was shorter than I expected. It also hurt my teeth a lot more than I expected and I have both a high pain threshold and a high pain tolerance.

However, my teeth came out looking awesome! I started smiling again and people would actually come up to comment on how perfect and pretty my teeth looked!

I eat a lot of sweets and drink a lot of coffee so the results in my case were only semi-perminent... however, my teeth looked so nice I'm considering getting this procedure again. :)
