I am a 31 year old Asian Male and I've undergone a Skin Needling Procedure using a Dermapen. I've had atrophic scars which are a combination of box and ice pick scars prior to treatment. I've had cystic acne in the past and this had left me with deep scars. The doctor who did my treatment was a General Practitioner(not even a Dermatologist) and used a Dermapen for the Skin Needling and she was so aggressive with her treatment that she went in circles and in different directions all over my face. The motion of the Dermapen going around my face was so fast that there was some pain even if she applied numbing cream. She would often go with 1.0 and 1.5 mm on my cheekbones and there was pinpoint bleeding. During the treatment, she would apply serum which she said had growth factors in them which I think was for collagen production. After needling, I was left with blood clots or blood that dried up on my face especially on the cheeks. It lasted for 2 days and they've come off after washing my face.

I was given hydro cortisone cream after the procedure to ease the redness and swelling and I need to use it for 5 days. After the peeling, my face had more scars and holes in it. They looked like needle prick scars. I've regretted the day I've done this procedure. Here are my pictures to show you how terrible it is.

After 2 months of NO improvement and permanent scarring, I've underwent 3 Fractional CO2 laser sessions (using Fire-Xel Fractional Laser System) with a different doctor which is now a Board Certified Dermatologist and my scars are somewhat better. I'm also taking GNC Vitamin A (Beta Carotene) 10,000 IU , GNC Vit. C (1000 mg) and a Collagen capsule from Watsons daily. My scars from my previous Skin Needling Procedure were somewhat improved by 50 % by the Fractional CO2 laser. I still have the scars from the Dermapen but it's more shallower. I can say my Dermapen treatment ruined my face!

Don't believe what you see and read online about Dermapen making acne scarring better because it will just worsen it. Prior to my treatment, I've done my own research about Dermapen and the good reviews enticed me to try it out. I've spent hours on youtube and online sources saying the Dermapen does wonders on the skin but it has done the opposite to me. I even looked at before and after photos and I think the government should ban Dermapen. So, beware! Dermapen will cause more holes in your face and more scarring. Better go with Fractional CO2 laser for acne scarring which I can personally say is scientifically proven to improve your scars. My pictures is proof that Dermapen can cause more scarring.
