Crappy Tattoo I'm Trying to Get Rid of (Dark Skin Type)

First let me warn you of Dr. Tatoff that place is a scam! Second I'm an African American woman who got a tattoo when I was 21, my friend with a similar skin tone recommended me to go to her tattoo artist which was mistake #1 because I didn't do any research on the guy. He dug into my skin causing a raised/scarred tattoo that isn't even straight so every time I have my arms down you see the slant which is annoying. I wear long sleeves all the time to hide it. I'm writing this post because it's so hard to find information on dark skin types going through tattoo removal. At first I was planning on writing a review when I was done with all the treatments but maybe this can help someone now. I'm always beating myself over this and so ashamed so show my arms. Hopefully the pico laser treatments will work nicely on my skin type. I've been spacing out my treatments 10weeks apart and applying bio oil twice a day. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or just feel like you need to talk to someone about this because I understand how it feels and going through this is a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
I am in the same dilemma.
May I ask in which country you are getting your treatment?

I'm sorry to hear that. I am getting treatment done in the United States, San Diego CA to be exact.

For your skin type you are definitely getting great results, your technician knows what he/she is doing. Not only are you seeing fading, but no hyper or hypopigmentation. Good luck with your removal, keep us posted!

Thank you so much! That does mean a lot! There are some spots that I'm worried about getting hypopigmentation in so I apply bio oil. I will keep you all posted :)

Did the raised scars improve? I have a scarred/raised tattoo too that i want to laser but i'm affraid the scars will worsen/not improve thus leaving me with a scar tattoo after complete ink removal. Btw which laser did you use?

I think it’s too early to tell if my raised scars have improved but I know they haven’t gotten worse which is a good thing. I use Picosure but I’ve heard that laser helps flatten raised scars

Why updates? I know someone who is African American and she had her tattoo successfully removed with little pigmentation issues. She spaces session out 12 weeks as opposed to 4 to 6 weeks which took longer but was really hetterfor her skin in the end. She only had tiny spots with hypopigmentation which all actually healed themselves within a 6 to 8 month period. So I guess with darker skin types you just need more time. And she also had picosure, said that's way better for darker skin than Q switch. Hope that helps!!

Meant to say "any updates?" Not "why updates?" Lol

Hi that helps so much!!! I was spacing my treatments out between 8-10 weeks. My next treatment is in February because I decided to take your advice and space the treatments out longer. I will post an updated photo right before my treatment tho :)

hi hows the healing going? it looked like your had some decent fading after the first tx. do you have any side effects as of now? maybe they are keeping the energy low due to your skin color? can you upload a new photo? thanks and best wishes on your removal!

The healing is going good! My tattoo was originally scarred but I don’t have any additional scarring due to the laser!

Hi you guys, it’s been about 12 weeks since my last treatment. I decided that would be best to let my skin heal since I am darker skin. I took the photos right before my treatment so sorry for the glare! Hope this helps!

I think you are wise to give your skin more time to heal. It seems like people end up with scars and pigmentation problems because they don't give their body a chance to heal. Your arm is looking great so far!
April 29, 2018
Thank you so much! I’m just trying to have faith that it will go away with minimum scarring and pigmentation problems
April 29, 2018
Are you having any skin issues thus far
April 29, 2018
Not so much! The skin issues I do have is because my tattoo was originally scarred so there isn’t any additional scarring
