40 Years Old, Always Wanted a Cute Nose. San Diego, CA

UPDATED FROM Jan003

After photos

It's been a year since my rhinoplasty. The whole experience has been great. The changes are most dramatic from the profile, not so much from the front, which is fine. I am very happy with the chin implant as well, my only regret is that I didn't go with a size large for the chin implant, the result would have been more dramatic. Overall, I don't have any regrets at all, and would do it again! I do love the way my profile looks like now. I am no longer self-conscious to be seen from my profile. I am very glad I went to Dr. Kolstad and recommend him highly.

Day 4 and 5

I have been feeling really good these past couple of days, including today, and I have been able to breathe beautifully through my nose at night. My face is quite colorful, it will be interesting going to the office and class on Wednesday, lol, but I don't particularly care. I am going to the lovely Dr. Kolstad's office today to take off the head band and look at the chin stitches. Hopefully everything has progressed according to plan regarding the chin and it healed nicely. I haven't looked at it yet.

You probably have read about this already but Arnica pills are suppose to help with bruising. I think they helped with the bruising under my eyes fairly well so far. Good luck with your recovery!
Hi, thanks for the tip; I took a lot of Arnica! Well, maybe I could have taken more. Yeah, the bruising was "interesting" and colorful, but I feel like it was part of the natural healing process - some of us are lucky and have minimal bruising, and some of us have more. Mine lasted around 2 weeks, I think. But it's now gone. I'd better post some pics, I am very happy with the results so far. (still waiting for the chin/lipo to firm up).
Sorry about that. Didn't look at the date right away. I'm actually still having really bad swelling and bruisimg under my chin so maybe I should take more too. Glad your results turned out well!
No problem, I am just not sure how helpful the Arnica was, I am not saying it wasn't, because maybe without it it would be a lot worse! lol. I took 30c (not sure what that means) 5 pills 3x a day, started a week before the surgery and continued a week after the surgery. My doctor recommended the dose. He also said he has Arnica I could buy from his office, which is stronger... Oh well, I didn't mind the bruises, I went to work and school with them, hahaha.

So how are you feeling today? I was surprised to read that you felt like eating the first night! lol good for you. Are you home now? The swelling should go down soon, are you taking any medication for it? I had something (I think I wrote the name in my post) and it took the swelling down dramatically on the 3rd day. But yeah, the bruising will take time. Did you have packing and is it out now? Can you breathe through your nose? Hope you feel ok! But everybody's experience is different and patience is the key. It gets better with every day!
I want to see recent pics if you have any. I'm planning on getting my nose done..terrified. I want a nose like Kerry Washington. Was it difficult to convince your husband? Mine is skeptical, but I know he'll give in eventually. Congrats!
I am planning on posting a lot of pictures, will try today. My husband just doesn't understand why would someone go through surgery if it's not necessary, which I respect. Luckily we accept that we have different opinion on these things. I started telling him about it about a year in advance, plus I did have some breathing difficulty (deviated septum and postnasal dripping which was causing me to cough), and there was a chance the surgery would help, so that helped in convincing my husband. Although he knew very well that the main reason I am doing it is because I want to have a cute nose, hahaha.

I saw many doctors about the cough and breathing troubles, lung specialist, an allergist, an ENT, and they couldn't find anything so they said that septo-rhinoplasty might help. I had a clearance from insurance to have it done through an ENT (ear-nose-throat), but at the end I decided to go with a plastic surgeon who focused on the cosmetic part because the looks were very important to me. I chose one with an ENT background.

Will you post pre and post pics? Have you had a consultation yet? It's good to see many doctors and see which one you like most. It took me about 1.5 year to finally schedule a date. And make sure you and your doctor communicate well so he/she knows what your expectations are. Kerry's nose is very cute, I hope you get exactly what you want! Keep me posted
Thanks Jan! I have been unhappy with my profile for some while now. I'm getting jaw surgery this summer to correct my maxillary prognathism..it would be next year on rhinoplasty.
Hi there, I was wondering how you were getting on? Hope your recovery is going well, please update if you can, I am really interested to see your results ! X
Don't mind the bruising- they go away with time! Also try drinking pineapple juice. Looks great so far :)
I would love to see your final results. I'm sure that at 10 months post-op, you must be all healed and lovely.

More pics from the day of surgery

Shortly after we got home. I was sedated and groggy and felt ok that evening. It was all fun and games until the morning of day 1 - that was the worst party. But really - anyone who is going through this needs to remember that the discomfort is very temporary. I read it in many reviews and now I have experienced it myself. For me it was just day 1 (Thursday) that bad. All I thought was how am I going to survive like this until Monday? But it was over before I knew it.

Also, I was very to have my lovely friends and my husband looking after me. I feel so blessed to have people like that in my life.
