43 year old male, just starting to have my first sun spots appearing on my cheek. Trying to be proactive and zap them off right away, so this isn't some extreme case. But may be helpful for others who are just starting to see sun / age spots on their face.

Did some Googling and saw some incredible results with the Pico laser so I figured I'd go for it. People's results made them look 20 years younger. Im a huge fan of sites like this that share firsthand experiences from real people so I figured I'd document my progress as I go along.

I do PicoSure on my face, too. It’s awesome. I’m 49, and had several larger ones due to hormones. I did them once a month for three months the very first time, but now once or twice a year keeps everything nice. Make sure you use sunscreen DAILY to prevent reoccurrence.

Very interested and did you ever try IPL? They say that is best for spots but I think I may do pico

Day of Procedure: Age / Sun Spot removal on Face 43 yr old male.

The office was extremely nice. Clearly they've done well for themselves. It's also huge. Like "corridors" huge. And visiting physicians from other cities, huge. But the waiting room was normal size and a lot of friendly people. Made it clear I knew I was probably a bit "early" for something like this but figured why not zap them off as they pop up, since this will probably be an ongoing thing now that I'm in my 40's. Staff and doctor professional and friendly. Informative and no negative experiences at all.

They gave me the price quote which was a bit higher than I anticipated (saw someone got the entire top of both hands done for $500 so I was envisioning maybe $200 maximum for my tiny little cluster). Ended up being $350. This didn't include the $160 lotion they recommended I use for after treatment, which I opted out of.

She said they had availability immediately to do it, so I said "Lets go for it".

Simply put, the procedure itself was nothing. I've had laser hair removal and I've also had cryo-freezing of skin abnormalities, and the former was the most pain I've ever experienced in my life. The latter was also pretty darn painful. But this was a cake walk. At the very most a little poke with a pin is all you feel, even though there is no pin. Its instant and then instantly gone. My section took him honestly a grand total of about 15 seconds to treat.

Zap .... Zap .... Zap ... Zap Zap ..... Zap ..... Zap.

Done. They have numbing cream for your skin if you really want it, but it takes about 30 minutes to kick in, and apparently it can make it little more difficult to treat the affected areas.

All the pictures marked "DAY OF PROCEDURE" are from 1 hour after the procedure.

Afterwards I was up and out of there, with some gel on my face to keep it moist. As I walked to the car, i could feel some tightness and a little heat, but really nothing worth noting. Traffic getting home was horrible so I was in the car for an entire hour. A couple times I felt a couple "pricks" of nerve stabbing in the area, which was interesting feeling. Again felt like a needle or something. Overall it felt a bit raw and tight for most of the drive. By the time 1 full hour had passed though, weirdest thing - I couldn't feel anything anymore. It was as if I had nothing done. 100% inflammation gone, and no discomfort remained. Cool. That was quick.

They say it can get worse during the first 12-24 hours, but by bedtime at about 9 hours, I felt perfectly fine. You can see how it looked, so honestly my biggest concern was having to walk my dog in a busy condo tower with tons of people who might think I had come down with a dreaded disease.

Hi, I'm in San Diego as well......wondering if you'd recommend your Dr. office and if so, if you'd pass along the info? Thank you!

Day After Procedure - Posting this on the same Day

Posting Day of, and Day after on Day 3 :) Because I had to wait for RealSelf to approve my account, and there's no option to define a specific date with each post.

So for "The Day After" you can see the pictures. Woke up in the morning and was feeling fine. Told to keep the area moist so this gel stuff they gave me is doing a great job of that. I think the goal here is to keep it wet so it doesnt harden up and "scab", which can be bad for healing without marks. So it LOOKS like I have scabs on my face, but when you get really close, they seem to just be discolorations with no actual "height" to them.

Again my biggest concern was looking like a disease victim to my neighbors in my condo tower but I figured it wasnt that horrible and I'd just deal with the odd looks for a few days. They told me healing would take 6 to 10 days depending on how quickly my skin heals in general.

I've included pictures of how I look from normal "other person distance" so you can see just how noticeable it is (or isn't).

I do want to comment that I am sure if I had a more widespread treatment area, that I probably would be feeling a lot more tenderness, but honestly even in the treated area, there has been zero sensitivity or tenderness. Im only assuming if it was all over my face it would be a bit more sensitive. Maybe not.
