Dr. Pousti performed my labia reduction surgery on 3/1/17. I had been an avid mountain biker on a tandem cycling team and was more and more bothered over the years by chafing, rashes, and sores caused by the interaction of hard training rides in the saddle (in the California heat) with the excess labia minora tissue I’d developed over my 58 years. I was miserable with the twisting and pulling of my labia during each and every ride I’d taken, and had often wondered what I could do to mitigate the discomfort. I also was having more UTIs and struggled with frequent rounds of antibiotics, at one point landing in the hospital for ten days with a brutal kidney infection. And finally, when I was recently divorced and became sexually active again, I realized that the pulling was also interfering with intercourse, more so than I had remembered. I had only heard of labiaplasty in the last 10 years and initially thought it was a drastic measure. But I determined that my comfort was paramount overall, and decided to pursue the procedure. During my original consult with Dr. Pousti in May 2016, I was amazed by his candor in telling me that I did not need the breast implant replacement I’d asked about but that the labia reduction I was most apprehensive about could be done with ease. After doing my homework on RealSelf and as well as my own research, I had many questions covering a wide range of very specific concerns—Dr. Pousti calmly answered them all without hesitation, and then fielded the follow-on questions I’d had as well. He treated me with respect and kindness, yet offered the professionalism I was hoping he would. I felt confident in his abilities, and when the time was right, I scheduled the labia reduction. I was very apprehensive in the week leading to the surgery as I suddenly realized that there was so much tissue to remove, but when I saw Dr. Pousti again a few days before surgery, his calm demeanor helped to quell most of my fears. The day of surgery he visited while I was being prepped to reassure me and ask if I’d had any additional questions, went over the timing of the surgery and post-op recovery with me as well as to provide last minute instructions on what to expect. After the surgery there wasn’t too much discomfort, and the pain that crept up as the anesthesia wore off was controlled with the medication Dr. Pousti had prescribed. His staff followed up with me every day, asking how I was and whether I’d needed anything at all…they were stellar in every way. The weekend after surgery I began to get worried about the amount of swelling I’d experienced and called Dr. Pousti’s answering service on a Sunday…he called me right back and calmed me down, and all was well after that. I am now almost three months post-surgery and doing well. His office still regularly contacts me to see how I am, which is great. I can’t recommend Dr. Pousti highly enough. He will be my first choice to perform any future cosmetic surgeries…he is terrific! Oh, by the way, my new boyfriend is very happy with my new anatomy, and my gynecologist had no idea I'd even had the surgery until I let him know during my last exam.
