Had a rhinoplasty and six months later revision....

Had a rhinoplasty and six months later revision. Primary improved the tip and bridge greatly. However transition from nose to forehead was quite awkward. Asked the doctor about the issue and agreed to revise. Procedure was to focus on that top part of nose referred to as nasion and radix depending whom you ask. Seems they're interchangeable terms. Unfortunately, my doctor lowered the bridge instead. Was specifically asked not to change it. Hasn't addressed the high puffy looking top part of nose. What you see in my picture is a scooped nose with a slight open roof deformity. In addition, the skin changes include wrinkling of skin and thinning above the gap. Unsatisfied and will require augmentation of bridge.

Disappointed with the end look. Not a day passes without being aware of the deficient nasal bridge and the bumpy transition between nose and forehead. Nasal integrity is fairly good. It's not changing. If he'd been more conservative with resection of the bridge I would love the nose. He didn't listen to my remarks and what I wanted the revision to correct. Should have left it alone.

These are just a couple of pictures of what the nose looks like right now. You see the bridge slopes inward. My preference was a straight bridge or even curved outward just a smidgen. But I got what you see there. It may not look bad to most people but it is not a good outcome.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get what you desired. I understand wanting a straight bridge....and not getting that must be disappointing. What is your surgeon's name? And do you have some before pics (before primary and before the revision)? Thanks so much and I wish you all the best.

Thank you Elisa. You're right, it is disappointing but I'm optimistic it can be fixed someday. My doctor's name is Brock Ridenour. I have more pictures and I will add some to my profile.

I've lived with the outcome for several years and kind of feel like getting it done. Just wish it was more affordable. Looked at your post pictures and the tip looked a lot better! Good thinking to leave the bridge alone!

From what i can see on the pics, i really like what you nose looks like. I understand that you might have wanted something different, but really, i think you look good. Carefully consider if you want to touch it again.

Thank you for such a sweet comment! I appreciate it. It's not far off from what I wanted and what was achievable. I was gonna leave it alone. Lately I've been noticing more rapid skin changes due to the gap in the middle of the bridge. That's giving me concerns. Thank you again for your positive comment!

Well you're a handsome guy no matter how you think your nose looks :-) best of luck to you anyway!

I agree w/ dizzydoll, a very good looking young man now, with or without the radix & bridge changes. We are our own worst critics of course! I get wanting more bridge or replacing what was taken away etc, but also can appreciate leaving it alone and being cautious of more surgery. I had a bad reaction to a low bridge on myself but others thought it looked fine in the big picture.

Hi, I also had a scooped bridge much like this as a result of a poor rhinoplasty (and a bunch of other nose problems but you only asked about bridge/radix). Was uncomfortable with how it looked and felt, couldn't wear glasses properly and like you preferred a straight bridge or slight convex one for my face. I eventually had the bridge built up with cartilage grafts in a revision. Be careful of the radix area so that the augmentation doesn't start too high and look unnatural, or if it is done too heavily can make the eyes look closer together.

Myrica, thank you for your comment and advice. I'll keep it in mind. I wanted the bridge augmented sort of in the middle. That should avoid the Roman esque look that i had after primary. There is still a bit of the old radix left that I'd like rasped down and the graft where too much was reduced. Yes, I know the problems with wearing glasses. My nice was originally growing right out of the forehead. Are you satisfied with your outcome?

My eyes looked very close together with original nose btw.

Sounds very similar to what I was looking for and was uncomfortable without a taller bridge, like part of my face was missing. I did get some resistance from a few surgeons who thought my low bridge looked fine and I had to question their judgement. Have you tried drawing a morph or sketch diagram of where you want augmentation and where you don't -- it would help when/if you talk with or write to surgeons about it to make sure they truly understand. Yes I've been pleased with the new bridge it really helped balance the face to build up the nose and doesn't look too heavy for the eye spacing. I have b&a pics showing the low bridge/ high bridge and how it was fixed if that helps, pls send me a PM.

Sorry about typos. I'm glad you have been pleased with the new bridge. I don't understand why some surgeons don't get the radix/bridge relationship. My surgeon is supposedly a conservative guy. He did leave a good bridge after primary. But the radix was ridiculously high. Thicker than before. I asked him to just take the radix down a specified among at revision and brought a really good drawing of myself. It looked like me, I draw pretty ok. But he dug into the bridge which he wasn't supposed to change except at the junction of radix. But not the middle of the nose too. I think he figured he'll scoop it out and I'll be happier. I didn't like the Romanesque look after primary. But scooped was totally the other way.

I don't really have a way to generate a morph. Tried it before but the program I used wasn't user friendly enough

Pictures of mostly front view of un-operated nose

I tried finding pictures of my old nose but for now only succeeded to find front view. I will find some side-view photos as well. The front view never bothered me. It does not show properly how big and bent the nose really was. I guess no photos, rs didn't let me upload the file type :( bummer
