34H to Smaller - Sacramento, CA
UPDATED FROM 34H but not for long
3 months post
12 weeks post op or 3 months on May 21
WORTH IT
Just wanted to update and say I'm still very pleased with my decision to take a load off my chest. It has made my life so much easier in SO many ways, from buying to exercising to a boost in self confidence that cannot be measured by my new 36D (36DD at Victoria's Secret).
UPDATED FROM 34H but not for long
1 month post
Almost 5 weeks post op
In 2 days I will be 5 weeks post op breast reduction and I couldn't be happier with the results. I have seen my PS almost every week and he's been great. Dr. Vento and his nurse Jill are with Kaiser Sacramento. Thankfully I am able to email him or call his nurse directly with any questions. I went in a couple days ago because I was worried about some redness that had appeared. Turns out I was "spitting" which means a couple of the sutures were rising to the top of my skin more or less. He did a little snip and I was out of there.
Today was a pretty big deal for me. I went to be fit. I went early in the day, as I still get swollen in the evenings. I was a 34H and today I wore 36DD. Although I've never worn a 36 band and it MAY be due to the swelling, I have to tell you how happy it made me to be able to buy a bra that didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I literally found a really nice (normally expensive) bra at Macy's and paid $12 for it including tax. Feeling motivated, I went to Victoria's Secret, since I've always been able to purchase panties, but never bras, as they never carried 34H. I had received a free rewards card for a free pair of panties anyway, so thought I would also try on a bra. I saw the cutest bralette for $10 that matched the free pair of underwear I had already chosen. So I ended up leaving VS with a complete set for $10.80! Although I am still wearing my $8 walmart fruit of the loom or genie bras for the first 3 months, my PS did tell me I could wear the occasional bra for a short time (my daughter's wedding for instance in a couple of weeks).
Just had to share. Felt so great to fit into a DD cup!

That is so exciting! I wish I could find a bra at VS for $10.80. What a deal, and how awesome to be able to buy a bra at VS. I have bought a few new bras 36 or 38DD, but have not yet at VS. They had their semi-annual sale when I was about 2 weeks post-op, but I couldn't try anything on yet. Hope you continue to feel well.

I see the pic's now....thanks once again....

Hi, I am the bra size you used to be, and I have Kaiser too (in S. Calif) so I'm so glad to read your info and I hope you can answer a few questions. I had implants for 25 years and 1 day I woke up on my stomach to a lot of pain. I had slept w/ a hot water bottle over my heart to keep warm, but during the night I rolled over and slept on it and was bruised terribly by the metal in the bottle's opening. The pain stayed so after 3 weeks I saw a doctor who said my implants were encapsulating and leaking. Kaiser would take them out for free, but said I'd look saggy and said if I opted for a lift at the same time, it would cost $5,500 (normally $8000, they said. And $10,000 more if I wanted new implants, which seems just insane.) So anyways, I think you got a steal of a price!!! Did they keep you overnight? How long were you off work? Since its been a year since your last post here, are your scars much different now? Thanks for sharing your story.

They did not keep me overnight. I no longer work, but I would have to say with my previous job, I COULD have been back in a week, but it would have been too soon. My 2 week point had a substantial improvement for me. My scars are much more white now or nonexistent in places. They were redder in the beginning. The biggest change or difference is that I am no longer as perky as I was in the first few months. It definitely takes a full year to reach your new "true" size. I am now 38C or 36D and that's with a Walmart underwire. At Victoria's secret or with plunge or push up bras, it'd be 36DD. It's sort of funny but now I enjoy wearing a plunge or push up once in a blue moon. Most often, my favorite bra is an active job bra. I love that I can walk/jog or do anything without pain. I can even jog around the house without a bra. However, with age comes gravity, so of course, not as perky as I was in the first couple months (which I am grateful for because it made me appear bigger). I still can't believe I was a 34H. Best surgery I've ever had STILL. And my husband still loves them too. I won't lie, I think he secretly misses "the girls" from time to time, but I don't get as many migraines and am much more active, so that makes him happy too. One thing I would do differently and would suggest to anyone doing a reduction is to have liposuction in the underarm area. My surgery was medically covered, so of course, I didn't even think about doing anything cosmetic. Because my breasts were so large, that underarm area really is part of your breast tissue and does not just go away. If I was more bothered by it, I would pay for it out of pocket. However, since you're paying so much out of pocket to begin with, I would ask for the lipo underarm procedure. However, because you had implants to begin with, maybe you don't have that underarm breast fat tissue. Best of luck to you!!!

Thank you VERY much for the helpful reply! I have migraines too but I never made the connection that my boobs could be a contributing factor! I think I will set my surgery date for this fall or winter, as it's easier to hide the bandages and padding with jackets. I don't think I'll be telling my coworkers anything about it, I will just take 2 weeks vacation and try to resume working like nothing happened. Thanks again for the time you put into giving me details. I look forward to buying bras at Victoria's Secret again, rather than buying bras online and hoping they would fit properly! Take care!

Looking good. Hope your recovery continues to go well. How are you feeling?

Thanks so much! Feel best early in the day. Swelling in the evening makes it a little more uncomfortable though.

You look great! Can you believe it's only been 10 days? I'm at 7 and am so glad I went through with it and very happy to finally be on the small side.

March 7, 2014
Thank you. Tomorrow is actually 14 days. I posted the pics a day late. My surgery was Feb. 21st and I'm really happy with the progress I've made. My biggest obstacle now, like everyone I'm sure, is to continue doing NOTHING, or at least very little, so I don't mess anything up. Also happy to be on the small side. On a side note, went in for a fitting today and the lady thought I am a 34DDD. I was surprised because I FEEL so much smaller. I guess going from 34H...that IS much smaller! Still have swelling though, so won't know my "true" size for some time.
