I have been researching breast augmentations for a very VERY long time. I finally took the first steps and went to my first consultations. If there is anything I have learned so far, it is this ladies:

ALWAYS get TWO opinions from DIFFERENT surgeons/practices.

My second consultation was so much more in depth and informative. I was so set on getting anatomical (tear drop) shaped textured Sientra implants after my first consult because I am aiming for the natural look but my second doctor told me I would be able to achieve the same look with round silicon implants because of how the pectoral muscles will compress the implant beneath it. Also, he informed me that textured implants have had a correlation to Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (AL-CL). So I have decided to pursue the round smooth Mentor implants with the second doctor. I still need to set up the financing for the procedure, but I am calling the surgeon tomorrow morning to set the surgery date for 2/2/2017.

I am very excited and would love to hear some tips for recovery. I am anticipating on returning to work on post op day 5. Does anyone think that is too ambitious?

Great advice...get several doctor consults! It sounds like you're ready to go! Feel free to join the February 2017 breast augmentation surgery forum for some pre and post op support. If the link does not work, you can type the forum title into the RealSelf search bar. Also, be sure to comment on reviews that you like so those members can easily find you and provide you with feedback. Good luck and keep us posted!

I think they are beautiful as they are. Why go through the unneeded risk?

Thanks!! I just want to be able to fill out most of my clothes better. It's been something I have been contemplating and researching for years. Post operative recovery is definitely not a walk in the park so I advise everyone deciding to go thru a breast augmentation to really make sure it is something they want.

Hi there
How exciting! Recovery varies from person to person. I had over the muscle and had a week off. My friend had same surgeon as me and was under the muscle with 2 weeks off. We were both meds free day 3/4. It's hard to tell. If your work is physical I'd say 5 days isn't long enough. :)

You can tell my left breast is slightly larger. I am hoping the implants can correct the asymmetry.

Post op day 1

I had my operation at 730AM yesterday morning. Everything was fine until I woke up half way when he was operating on my right breast. I told him I needed more IV SEDATION pushed which he did and I was immediately knocked out again. I don't remember much other than that. I was trying to avoid taking any Norco or Valium but the pain from getting out and into bed was too severe so I had to take them. Not feeling good enough to out go out and walk yet. Maybe in a few days. I'm hoping to get back to work half day on Tuesday. I'm wearing a front close sports bra and have to wear it for the next month I believe. The doctor ended up going with 250cc in the left breast and 275cc in the right to compensate for the asymmetry. It's hard to tell the difference at the time due to swelling. Pictures coming soon.

You woke up?? How traumatic!!

I was slightly conscious but felt only discomfort not much pain. I knew if I didn't ask for my sedation though I would have felt more pain eventually. I am currently day 3 post op and am still having quite a bit of pain. I'm ready to fast forward to two weeks from now. Did you have any muscle spasms? I was woken up this morning due to my right breast spasming every time I took a breath.

I was so lucky judging by the comments on here. I didn't suffer from spasms at all. X

You woke up?? My worst nightmare
February 5, 2017
I wasn't fully awake but I was aware he was creating the pocket in my right breast for the implant. It was more discomfort than pain. This post op recovery has been more of a night mare for me than anything. I have such bad muscle spasms, even the Valium doesn't seem to help much. I see my doc tomorrow for my first postop appt. hopefully he can give me some Good news there
