40 Years Old, 3 Children, Tummy Tuck By Dr. Scott Green - Sacramento, CA
ORIGINAL POST
My body was never the same after my first child....
WORTH IT$8,200
My body was never the same after my first child. I'm normally an athletic build, 5'4" and about 118 lbs. but for some reason I gain a lot of weight when I'm pregnant. With all 3 pregnancy's I got up to 210 lbs. It took me about a year to get back to normal each time. But I guess I never really got back to normal. I have a stomach that sticks out and my thighs are pretty thick. I decided to spend the money and get my tummy repaired. I hope to get my legs back in shape at the gym. The day of surgery I weighed 124 and now 2 days post-op I'm 129. I think its all the swelling and IV fluid. I took 2 weeks off from work and should be able to go back to the gym after 6 weeks. The ages of my children are 15, 13 and 2.

I was taking a shower and had my husband snap a few photos. I didn't realize how serious this surgery was until today. I feel a little foolish now in hind sight having it done. Some people have a medical reason to have a tummy tuck, mine was purely cosmetic. The lipo caused the most pain that I'm feeling. I'm hoping for a quick recovery.

Don't feel bad...you only feel bad bcse you just had major surgery(s) and taking a shower is near impossible :-). I'm 30 days post op and life is really getting back to normal (slowly). I think you are going to look great!! Take time to heal--its a process

I think that shower was the hardest thing I've done so far. My back was killing me after. I have a stool and hand held shower head that made things a little easier. The drains are always in the way. They hurt so much too. I'll be glad when they are both out.

I'm not sure what the percentages are but many women choose to do this sx TT because of cosmetic reasons. Who doesn't want to get their bodies back! Right? You're looking good for just a few days. I hope you get the results but this is definitely the hardest part. Good luck

Thanks for your support and encouragement. I definitely need it today. I stopped taking the pain meds so I could think clearly and feel what my body was really going through. Now I'm realizing how much extra work I'm causing everyone else because I'm not up cooking, cleaning and taking care of things. But it's only for a few weeks, I think they can deal with it.

Your 15 and 13 yr olds can definitely help to make dinner and clean up after. Maybe you can motivate them by planning an event, something fun, when you feel better. Or what about getting pizza or some kind of take out a couple days ? Then everyone can help straighten out the house vacuum, dishes, etc. we know we could make ourselves to do it! It just wouldn't be smart in the long run. You're on your way!

Yes, that would be nice. Our family is a little split up. My ex-husband moved to San Luis Obispo when he lost his job and couldn't find local work. My 15 year old daughter is living with him at the moment. My 13 year old son is with me and has trouble with his school work so we spend hours doing homework every night. My 2 year old daughter has a long list of allergies (milk, eggs, gluten, soy) so we don't eat out much. She also suffered some brain damage from seizures and a high fever with her second round of vaccines. She has therapy 2 days a week and a parent must be there in order to qualify. My husband stays home with her while I work during the day. He is a full time student going to nursing school to become a RN. He goes to school at night from 4-11. That's when I do all of the cooking and homework. My parents live in Maryland and his live in Chile so we don't have any family support. We do have lots of wonderful friends that seem to stop over and help out when we need it most. I'm feeling better today and things seem to be getting easier. Thank you for your post, it helps.

I had a consult with Dr. Green but haven't decided between him and another Dr. I'd love to know what you thought of him overall. Did you meet with any other Sacramento doctors?

January 30, 2014
I think his work is great, and in the end that's what it's all about. I wish he had more time to spend with me after the surgery so I could ask questions. That's my only complaint. I think Dr. Lee and Dr. Kaufman and also good choices. Dr. Lee is the most affordable and has his office in Roseville at the Sutter hospital. Dr. Kaufman is in Folsom. I don't think I would go to Dr. Green to have breast implants, I would go to Dr. Kaufman. If your doing a tt, Green is the best for that.

Thanks! I met with Dr. Clark who is partners with Kaufman. I liked her and her price was about $1000 less than Green, but you're the 2nd good referral for Green so he might have to be my choice.

I had my TT by Dr Sumida in Folsom. He and his staff were awesome! Dr. Lee was nice but found out right before my pre-op that they wont fill out fmla or state disability paperwork so I had to cancel surgery ..Dr. Sumidas office did both with no problem for me and my hubby to take care of me, at no extra charge, made me wonder why Dr. Lee refused to fill it out..be aware of that before chosing Dr. Lee if you want to be paid for your time off after surgery.

March 13, 2014
Thanks for the info. I never thought to take FMLA. I just used 2 weeks of vacation during my recovery. I figured because the TT was for cosmetic reasons it wouldn't qualify for paid leave.
March 13, 2014
Fmla is for " your own serious health condition" and State disability even covers it as long as you are " unable to perform your normal job duties" I couldn't afford to take the necessary time off without pay...My Doctor said 4-6 weeks bcuz I had tummy tuck with lipo of hips stomach and flanks...What did you do after the first 2 weeks? There is no way I could go back to work in another week...

March 14, 2014
I was up doing normal stuff after day 11. I also had lipo in the same areas and addition lipo to my upper knees. I guess some people take longer to heal. I work for the utility co. and I do a lot of physical activity all day. I may have healed faster because I'm so active.
March 14, 2014
Today is only day 7 so maybe will feel much better in next week. I had a high tension style tummy tuck, which they say takes longer to heal from but your comment gives me hope since I normally work out and have an active job. Thank you

Congrats on your surgery, you look great! Happy healing

Dr. Green and his staff
I love Dr. Green. I was confident that he would give 100% of himself to my surgery. He has a lot of experience and has a way of being confident without being cocky. He is a little quiet, so it's up to you to ask all the questions. The morning of the surgery I was nervous and having second thoughts. My husband reminded me of all the reasons why I wanted to have a tt and I felt better about the whole thing. At the surgery center they made me put on a gown and step on a scale to get my weight. Then the nurse gave me a bed and warm blanket. She asked me a bunch of questions about my health and past experience with surgeries. She started my IV and the anesthesiologist introduced himself. I told him that I didn't want to wake up in a lot of pain, that was my biggest fear. He said he would add a pain medication to the IV before I woke up to take the edge off. Dr. Green walked up, asked how I was doing and began to draw on me with a blue marker. That only took a couple of minutes and I was back in bed. The nurse came over right away with a syringe that she injected into my IV. She said she was going to take me over to the operating room now and I began to feel groggy. I only remember seeing the lights above the bed and then I was out. When I woke up, I was back in the same spot where I started. I felt a little burning sensation, like I had a sunburn on the inside of my tummy. That's all the pain I felt, so I went back to sleep. When I looked at the clock it said 11:30 and when I went into surgery It was 7:00 am so I was in there for a while. I never saw Dr. Green again that day. I had so many questions for him, I guess he had another surgery to do. I was on my way home around 12:30 and I felt pretty good. I enjoyed my time at the surgery center, everyone was very nice.

Aww that's so sweet of her. I'm crossing my fingers that our daughter does OK with me being OOA (out of action) for a little while. My husband has only 1 week off then I'm depending on others to help me the 2nd week so hopefully everything works out. Thanks for sharing your story.
