Well, I've been self conscious about my breasts...

Well, I've been self conscious about my breasts for a long time. I am 26, but the other day, my mom said (nicely) that my boobs look like hers did after nursing me and my brother, lol. She certainly didn't mean it in hurtful way, but I see her point. She was merely encouraging me to proceed with the augmentation. I am about 5'2" - 5'3" and weigh about 120 lbs. I am athletic and love working out, so wearing a sports bra is a constant reminder of how flat I am. I can usually wear a 34B bra, but the cups aren't close to being filled out, so I am probably more of a 34A. In addition to being small up top, I have some separation between my breasts, which my surgeon told me is something to acknowledge before my augmentation. I think that he just wanted me to be on the same page as him and understand that getting implants will not bring them closer together. My mom told me that hers have always been that way too, so maybe it is just hereditary. Also, I had struggled with an eating disorder when I was younger and my little boobies took the yo-yo dieting pretty harshly. As a result, they are not as perky as you would expect they should be. Anyhow, I recently decided that I am ready to go on with this procedure and will be seeing the same PS who did my mom's replacement a couple of years ago. I had my consult on Monday and my boyfriend and I were very pleased with the Dr. and his associates. We are going to go with about 330cc, but we haven't decided on silicone or saline yet. My boyfriend's main concern is my health/safety, and when he voiced that to the dr, his response was "go with saline". I understand the different pros and cons of both, but one of my biggest concerns is achieving the most "natural" looking breasts possible. Now, I know that this is sort of an oxymoron right? "Natural fake boobs", but I'm sure that you gals know what I mean. I want them to look and feel as natural as possible. The dr mentioned that depending on how much breast tissue one has to begin with, the difference between saline and silicone is minimally noticeable (in feel). He said that I have about an inch of tissue, but I just don't really know? I've read about a lot of women saying that silicone feels noticeably better, but I think that it depends on the woman body type. My mom for instance is very very thin (about 5'6" and 108lbs) and she had her salines replaced with silicone a couple of years ago. I would love anyone's input and advice about saline v. silicone, and I will post a picture ASAP! I'm very excited for this and will keep everyone updated :)

I have researched and watched alot of videos. Saline are cheeper and have a fake feel to them. You can actually si the bump to them cause they are hard. Silicone are better they feel more natrual and look more natrual. I think you should research with other surgeons because i think they can make ur boobs unite more. It looks like ur chest bone pops up and a surgeon with experience would know how to accommodate them to set as close as possible. Im also getting breast augmentation but in florida with dr. Christopher Craft.

I would advise against saline personally, there are numerous issue with saline over silicone. If the silicone does 'rupture' it is not going anywhere- it is inside a scar tissue pocket, and even then if you 'cut' the implant the contents doesn't go anywhere. There is a MUCH higher rate of rupture with saline. Saline does not feel as real, it ripples MUCH more (ever see women who have the lines on their breasts?) and often gives that 'balloon' look. It is personal preference, but of the all the doctors I know (I'm networked) they only use saline if the patient insists- and even then they try to convince them otherwise. Many choose saline because it is less expensive- however they won't actually say that.

I would also comment on your surgeon- he should definitely be able to make your breast implants sit perfectly- regardless how far away your breasts are.... that doesn't make sense. He can give you three breasts if you want. There are a couple things to consider when you did your surgeon review- maybe get a second opinion? There is a exact mathematical equation and also a art to implants. He should know his numbers, and then back it up artistically.

I think that what he meant to say was that implants on a girl with more/less breast tissue and perkier breasts with nipples sitting higher than mine, might look different than they would on me. I think that he was just trying to make sure that I retain realistic expectations for after the surgery. He did say that he can and will position them very nicely, considering my frame and ribcage. I appreciated him being realistic, because I don't want to be on a different page and have unrealistic expectations of what I will look like, you know?

I see. Unfortunately, some surgeons do have issues with far set, ptosis, etc and end up with snoopy boob syndrome, which can entirely be prevented :) What is your ribcage and BWD?

I'm about 35 around my ribcage, I'm not sure about BWD...

As you can see, by chest is fairly wide, and there is some definite separation. Anyone who has experienced this and might have some input as far as what an augmentation will look like?

Question: Saline or Silicone?

User Avatar

I know that this is a very personal choice, but I'm curious what people have to say. My surgeon told me that I have enough breast tissue that a 350cc saline implant wouldn't not be noticeable distinguishable from a silicone one, but I am wondering what everyone thinks...? Thank you!

I responded above. There is a 90% preference rate among doctors for silicone.

I feel silicone is most people choice as saline ones will deflate completely if it ruptures! Silicone implants have come so far they don't leak outside the capsule if it does puncture

Honey listen to your Dr. everyone has their own opinions. First of all Silicone DOES leak, slowly though. An MRI will only show it, and silicone leaking in your body is not good. Now cohesive gel "gummy bear" implants dont leak. I am getting Salines this friday, remember the outer shell is silicone, I have seen and felt boobies that look and feel natural, even my best friend who had no tissue got Salines and they felt great! Your still young and u can always do what your mom did change them later to silicones if you wish. It is your choice. Good Luck.
