I went to Dr. Rosenstock for a consultation on an otoplasty as he was recommended to me by another doctor for the procedure. I'd like to share my experience since there aren't many reviews about this doctor - especially upon learning more about the cosmetic surgery process. -While sitting in the waiting room on my phone checking work emails (not even on a voice call), the receptionist (Charlene) came up to me angrily and said "you can't bring that in there" and made me check my phone in a the front desk, saying that the doctor gets very upset with people who bring their cell phones in. Though this was an odd request I was totally fine with it - however the demeanor in which I was confronted about it made me feel uncomfortable. -Doctor Rosenstock seemed very pleasant and experienced. He took me through the surgery, answered all my questions and showed me photos. -He told me the surgery would be almost twice the amount any other doctor in the area was charging. Additionally, I now understand that normally a doctor will provide you with a written quote with a breakdown of the cost but in this case I did not receive one. -He told me that I would need to stop taking birth control pills for a cycle prior to the surgery. He said I also needed to visit my primary physician and get bloodwork done before the surgery. I was later told by another surgeon that this is atypical, especially for patients who are healthy and young (like I am). -It was $250 for a consultation which was excessive. This fee was not disclosed to me when making the appointment. -Despite my gut feeling (although the receptionist helped me with an unrelated insurance question, she really rubbed me the wrong way with that first visit) - I liked Doctor Rosenstock and put down a deposit for the surgery. Now normally after putting a deposit down you receive paperwork via the mail a few days later - consent forms, explanation of total charges, etc. I called twice to receive this paperwork and ended up getting it about 2 months after I placed my deposit to hold the surgery date. It was a handwritten note and didn't explain in detail any of the charges (just said "Total: $10,000"). -Getting in touch with the practice was an annoyance. The phone was almost always busy (call waiting, hello?) and the doctor does not communicate by email at all. -I hadn't had my pre-op yet and it was 2 weeks before the surgery was scheduled when I decided to cancel because the whole experience was just giving me bad vibes. Charlene was very unhappy when I told her this and told me they could not refund any of the $500 deposit (on top of the $250 consultation fee) that I put down. There was no explanation of this type of cancellation policy on the paperwork I received and was told that it was a "verbal agreement". I have spoken to other surgeons who have told me that this is not normal for a practice - if you cancel within reasonable time you will almost always get some of your deposit back, and the cancellation policy should always be on the paperwork provided. All in all, although I lost out on some cash I don't think I would have been happy if I got the surgery with Dr. Rosenstock. The service I received by the office was so unfriendly, unaccommodating and, quite frankly, odd that I would have been nervous about the reaction I would receive if something had gone wrong due to the surgery. I am chalking this experience up to a very expensive mistake and in the future if I am able to afford the surgery again I will not be going to Dr. Rosenstock to perform it.
