I am a 20 year old black girl with very coarse dark hair. I've been removing my chin, under arm, and bikini hair for 7 years now. It has caused ingrown hairs, discoloration, and irritation every time! So much frustration surrounds this issue like why do I even need to remove the hair in the first place? I finally decided that getting rid of it would relieve the discomfort and angst I feel about it.
Its been under a week since I got my first treatment. The laser was the Suprano XL and it felt like getting multiple hairs plucked with tweezers all at once (a prickly feeling). The laser would get very hot and painful if concentrated on areas with more hair. So next time I will have to shave closer so that it doesn't target the surface hair.
I do feel some relief, typically after a few days the hair will already be stubbly, ingrown, with added irritation and pain. However that has gone down so that is good.

I just spent the last 7 months doing my legs-expensive but well worth it. I also get the rash afterwards and even get hives but once that disappears it's all fine. My legs are super soft now and I rarely touch a razor. Good for u! Thanks for sharing

It's been about 2 months since my first laser hair session. I'm seeing such a great reduction of the unwanted hair I now want to do removal in more places like my legs!
I went back for my Second session about a week ago. I made sure to shave closer. The pain was lesser, but still present. And I forgot to add that I'm ticklish underneath my arms and along the bikini line so that also made it challenging to keep still and relaxed.
I had a different nurse that time and she used a higher energy which I later found to be a small burn on my bikini line. Ouch! It has since healed and not caused additional problems. However, I have broken out in a rash along the outer edges of both my under arms and along the top of my bikini.
I'm not sure if it is a result of shave irritation, laser, or both. Right after the session there is redness, irritation, and pain from the dragging of the laser back and forth across the skin so many times. I'm pretty sure this opens the skin up to outbreaks very easily from the natural flora(bacteria) or anything that live on the surface of the skin. So the shaving has always been the hard part.
As I am healing I am seeing more reduction of hair and it is amazing. I would get growth back with in a couple of days now I barely trim in-between my sessions and in some places its baby smooth. :)

I think qualitative hair removal by laser is depends on the device quality and cosmetologist experience. If you are in the doubts what device to choose, firstly find good cosmetologist. As for me I was applying this one http://ems-beauty.com/cosmetology-machines/lasers/d-las-40-diode-laser and I am satisfied with the result. Just procedures and I am with any extra hair on my legs.
That's great, thank you for your post! Did you have laser treatment done for all your problem areas? It would be great to see your photos - can you post some? FYI, you can do so via our app. Download our iOS app for easier access to RealSelf.
