Hi everyone. I am 5'1, 36 years old with a starting weight of 188, BMI 35. I am on the pre-op diet now. I am excited, scared, and nervous. I hope/plan to update throughout my pre-op and post op experience. I have taken my measurements but do still need someone to take some good before photos. I get the "you don't need" it comments from most people, UGH. I have struggled for years to stay relatively on track at 140 to 150 pounds The last year or so after giving up all variations of dieting (I have tried them all and the diet pills). My weigh has dramatically increased. I have a strong family history of morbid obesity, which is very scary to me. Updates to come. I would love to hear from other folks with BMI similar to mine.

My surgery was on Sept. 16, in Decatur, TX. I noticed you are also in TX. My BMI was 34. I'm 53, and needed the weight off of my joints.
I've lost over 15 pounds since I started the liquid diet on Sept. 9th.
It's not exactly falling off, the weight isn't. I'm having a harder time the second week getting the water and protein in. Learning to eat slower, and drink slower, seems to be my problem. It's crucial you do that. If not, my does it hurt going down lol.

Congrats on your decision to get yourself to your fool weight it's been hard and I believe I made the right choice getting the sleeve, mind you it's not been easy but I have no regrets

BMI 35-40 with co-morbidities can qualify for weight loss surgery. Which means that you are not currently in the healthy range. To those that tell you that you don't need it, stop trying to get their approval. They will continue to drag you down and put doubt in your mind. You are only 5'1". 188# is a lot for your height. I'm not saying this in a negative way, just trying to confirm your decision on surgery.
I am 5' 4 &1/2". I started at 246#, today 125# My BMI was 42, now 21. A drastic change for the better.
You will improve your life.

pre op diet not going well

I am not seeing the scale move... ugh. I am afraid my metabolism is so slow from years of bad habits that the sleeve will somehow not work for me. For years and years i kept the weight at an ok level by only eating once a day. My metabolism is at a crawl. As so as i started eating more than once is when my weight went way up. On the pre op trying to just do 2-3 shakes or bars with one lean meal may still be too much or something. I feel hungry though. I have a visit with the dietician later today. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this.

I am low bmi as well I weighted in at 215 and now just at 208 after 10 days. I wanted to be 200. I have my surgery on the 8th so....if I lose 4 pounds I will be happy but I can't get off the 208. I cheated once but got right back on the horse. I am paying out of pocket so really need this to work. BTW I am 63 and 5ft 5in. I wear a 16 or 18 depending. Everyone says you don't need this but yes I do for myself, my health and my grandchildren. I want to play with them and want them to be proud of me. So I do truly understand. When is your surgery day? What state are you in? I am in Ohio and traveling to TN.

Good luck! Dr. Roshek was my surgeon as well. I see him today for my 2 week post op. I have lost 14 pounds so far. Still having a hard time getting all my liquids in, but it is still early. Am doing some excercises at home now and walking at night. I feel so much better already. I hope you are doing well so far.
For me, I needed less weight on my joints, it's one more thing that was making my health, worse.
You still have plenty of time to decide.
