How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.

Unfortunate experience

Judging by Dr. Brundage's years of experience and the excellent reviews on here, I am sure he is a talented and caring surgeon. There are always anomalies though, and I'm sad to say my experience had been dramatically different than these other reviews.
I went to Dr. Brundage seeking a rhinoplasty for my large nose and bulbous tip. I wanted a better version of what I had. Unfortunately, I believe what I got was a worse version of what I had. I wouldn't say I was "botched", but it just isn't what I hoped for or expected. And, there are irregularities and oddities about my nose now, which are exacerbated depending on the lighting and whether I'm smiling or straight faced. (Smiling in bright overhead lights or with a camera flash is the worst, so I now find myself always assessing the lighting wherever I am and trying my best not to laugh or smile too big...a sad way to live!)
Words can't accurately express the amount of pain, depression, and insecurity this has caused me. I used to be such a vibrant, confident person and that has been lost.
I would encourage anyone reading this to spend the time doing your homework before going into a rhinoplasty. Please don't assume that anyone knows your face better than you. Meet with several doctors, preferably one who specializes in FACIAL plastic surgery. Choose someone who spends as much time with you as you need to feel comfortable. If you feel rushed, move on. If you feel intimidated, move on. If you don't know exactly what the expected outcome is going to be, ask for it and request visuals to make sure you are on the same page with your doctor. Highly important to that last point: don't go with anyone who does not have the time or the technology to show you digital morphs IN THE MOMENT so you can discuss different options and agree to a unified vision. I never received any such thing at Dr Brundage's. I was told that "decisions would be made interoperatively." At the time, I didn't know any better. Had I seen morphs or had a better idea of what the outcome would look like, I may have decided not to go ahead with the surgery at all. You should feel 100% empowered in the planning stage. You should have a voice and a say in what the outcome will be, down to the smallest details. And if your surgeon doesn't ask for your input or doesn't SHOW you what he or she means by certain things, you may want to reconsider. Because in rhinoplasty, the tiniest nuances and details can dramatically change your look, for better or worse.
There are so many things I could say here, but I'll just mention a few more things. When I went in to have my splint removed the week after my surgery, I was shocked by the fact that Dr Brundage didn't pick up the mirror to show me my new nose after the splint came off, or take any time to explain what he did in surgery and what changes were made. He simply removed the splint, and asked me if I had any questions (which completely threw me off), and left. That experience made me feel so devalued and like he really didn't care about me or what I thought of my result. He did his job, he thought it looked fine, and now he's moving on to the next person...is what it felt like.
When I went in a few weeks later to talk to him, as I was very upset about my result, he had one of his assistants take my pictures so he could try to convince me just how little he had actually changed. The photos I received were so over exposed, washed out and bright that you could not make out any fine details of my nose to see the problem areas that I was referring to. When I asked him about this he just said that "didn't have anything to do with the pictures." No sense of ownership whatsoever and no effort to make it right.
Ultimately, this whole experience has been extremely traumatic for me. My hope is that anyone reading this will learn what to look for when choosing a doctor for a rhinoplasty. Dr Brundage may very well be the right one for you. Just take the time to do your research. There are many different opinions on what makes a beautiful nose and in this case, the only one that matters is YOUR own.
