Biggest regret I have is proceeding with primary rhinoplasty with dr scamp. Surgery date 19/04/23.

From day one post surgery I was concerned as my right nostril was narrower than the left and the splint was on crooked. I didn’t say anything as I was trying to trust the process. At the 4 month mark I did raise concerns about unevenness and difficulty breathing through right nostril. I was told this was still swelling and to wait.

I missed my 6 months review due to sick children and just thought I will wait till the 12 month mark to raise any issues if still present.

I had my 12 month review on 14/05/23. I thought I’ll see if he mentions anything as the issues are quite obvious. I have a very noticeable lean to the right side and the bone on the left is lumpy and bumpy. I have a very noticeable “rasp” on the right side which gives me almost 2 different noses depending on the angle you look from. I have also had a CT scan as requested by my GP which indicated a moderate deviated septum, as per their report.

Dr scamp immediately said to me “it looks like you have thin skin”. Did he just realize that? His suggestion for that issue is fillers. Now I don’t believe anyone pays $15,000 for surgery to then have to get fillers in their nose to correct poor skill from the surgeon. I pushed back asking if there is anything else he can do for me. He told me to go to an ENT. I never had breathing issues before this? He said that in 10% of cases he recommends revision however he doesn’t believe I would get the results I’m after with further surgery. Initially, Dr scamp spoke very positively of the outcome I wanted. Nothing dramatic. The Vectra images provided look not even close to my nose now. If he was ever concerned about results and perhaps didn’t feel confident he never once said that to me before taking my money for this surgery. Thin skin was never mentioned. And if he knew of the thin skin before hand why does my nose feel like someone took a mini jack hammer to one side of my nose?? Surely more care would have been taken. During my appointment where I explained my concerns he had a smirk like face the entire time.

After the above comments, days later Dr Scamp sends me a letter asking me to come back after seeing the ENT to “discuss surgical options to improve the aspects of my rhinoplasty that bother me”. Complete opposite to what he said to me in my appointment. I have since seen a reputable ENT who has advised “it was a bad job” and that I did not require initial Septoplasty as I had no symmetry issues. I now need cartilage grafts to fix the dents in my nose. I have since requested in writing that Dr Scamp covers the cost of my revision surgery but Dr Scamp refused and believes I had a “good outcome”. He noted the consent form I had signed. I have since replied asking further details in regards to the outcome of my surgery and also a copy of this consent form but I have been ignored.

In his own words “so much easier to get it done right the first time than it is to rescue when the damage is done”. Well the damage is done now and I have been quoted anywhere from $16,500 to fix some of the issues right up to $35,000.
