Straight Forward, Honest, Realistic, and Professional Encounter.

I've made plans to travel to Istanbul for rhinoplasty procedure in October. After an extensive research and world-of-mouth from current and past patents I have narrowed my list to 4 potential drs with dr Berke Ozucer being my top contender. I want to hear what other drs will say but I was set on having my surgery with dr Ozucer. I have consulted with dr Ozucer prior to coming to Istanbul. He gave me an hour long online consultation. I have sent over my concerns and photos and we talked in details about my exceptions and realistic outcomes and boy he was not shy turning my unrealistic exceptions down really quick :) For one, no doctor will go the extra mile to schedule an online consultation of that length and discuss cases in details. Also, we had no issues with communication, his english was excellent. I think its given since he spent some time in the USA while pursuing education which was a plus for me.
Anyways, I made my way to Istanbul and since the hospital couldn't get me in for consultation on Monday and instead scheduled me for one on Tuesday and surgery the following day, I've used Monday to consult with 2 other drs, one of whom I came to know is a colleague and co-author with dr Ozucer :) Came Tuesday and I've had my consultation with dr Ozucer. I need to make one thing clear, Im a bit of control freak and I like to know all details of what will take place before committing to any surgery. I learned the hard way. I’ve had 2 major surgeries in Seoul S.Korea. One of which ruined my nose. Hence why Im getting rhinoplasty now, and the other one I paid another two thousand dollars + ticket + one thousand one hundred quarantine fees just to reverse it. Its only wise that I play it safe. I explained all this to dr Ozucer. At first he was bit reluctant to look at my old photos, and instead look at my current condition and see how he can improve it. Honesty, my goal was not to improve what I have. Plus, I didn’t want a new nose, I just wanted my old nose back or restore what I have now to achieve results that are close to my original nose shape. Needless to stay the consultation was deep, emotional and intense. Dr Ozucer suggested osteotomy, graft (rib or septal to be determined during surgery), and lastly alarplasty. All the unknowns nuances of the graft and alarplasty screamed “brand new” nose to me. I was visibly hesitant, worried and the dr noticed. He suggested that I take time to think it over and not rush. I can tell he felt bad saying that given that I travel for this and my surgery was already scheduled. I appreciated that he didn’t think money or benefit over my state. He was straight forward, honest and explained what he can do realistically speaking. I decided to postpone my surgery, reflect on my condition and do more leg work since Im here for few more days. For those looking into rhinoplasty regardless of where you are, my advice to you is:
- Don’t rush and do your utmost due diligence. Research your dr. Watch and read all that you come across, including medical journals. There are so many chat groups you can find and join to learn real reviews/feedback from actual patients.
- Balance expectation and realistic outcome. Nose that look good immediate ought to collapse. Also, big percentage of rhinoplasty go for revision. Be mindful of that.
- Choose your dr wisely and make sure he is an ENT. Very important!!! You don’t want to end up with functional or breathing issues. Pick someone that stands behind their work and offers revision free of charge should you need it. I cant stress enough.
- Aesthetic are different depending which country you pursue. Not to mention, some countries have more experience with diverse noses than others. I wouldn’t recommend dark skinned people to get rhinoplasty in S.Koran. Pick what’s right for you.
Lastly if you are looking for rhinoplasty in Turkey here is a list of drs that made it to my list:
Top Drs (Masters/Teachers) in Turkey. Very selective about cases and they charge an arm and a leg :)
- Süreyya Seneldir
- Nazim Cerkes
- Cakir
ENT:
- Saban Celebi (well know, well experienced, leans more on the aesthetic side)
- Berke özücer (experiences with revision cases, good balances between Aesthetic and breathing issues)
- Muhammet Dilber ( also well known, a lot of experiences specially ethnic noses)
- Umit Taskin (Rib specialist, uses rib in most cases+ diverse range of patients, tends be more on dolly side)
- Mehmed Emre Dinc (Natural, thorough in his analysis of cases, he takes his time and gives it his all)
- Dogar Pinar (Stunning natural results, but I read somewhere he doesn’t like revision cases)
- Timur Batmaz ( Didnt research him personally but Celebi sent his patients to him after contracting covid)
- Murat Ustundag (reconstruction and septoplasty specialist)
- Huseyin Balikci (Balikci and Celebi are known to stand behind their work and revisit cases w/no extra charge. Andddd he raised his prices like crazy this year!)
- Yusuf Orhan Ucal ( One of the great upcoming surgeons. Sufficient experience with ethnic cases, and he has an agent in the UK. Many of his foreign patients are British)
- Bahadir Baykal
Here is the hyped names (not ENT):
- Suleman Tas
- Miraz Firat,
- Ali Riza
- Ahmed Alp.
