Incredibly Talented and Caring Surgeon: So Happy with my Result!
TL;DR:
After 10 years of research, I finally went through with a rhinoplasty in Turkey with Dr. You at Clinichub. My experience turned out to be overwhelmingly positive. The recovery was complicated, but the results have exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend both Dr. You and Clinichub.
Knowing how much I relied on reviews during my own research, I wanted to write a detailed one to help others who are planning their own rhinoplasty journey.
Research
For 10 years, I thought about getting a rhinoplasty but was always too scared that I wouldn’t get the results I wanted. Researching clinics and doctors felt overwhelming, especially with so many options in Turkey. After nine months of thorough research and a lot of back and forth, I finally chose Dr. You. His portfolio was impressive, the reviews were glowing, and during our video consultation, he described exactly the nose I was hoping for. That reassured me he was the right choice. Plus, his English was excellent, and he came across as really caring and kind.
The only thing that held me back for a while was some of the mixed reviews about Clinichub, the clinic he works at. I read a few complaints about logistics and aftercare, which made me hesitate. But after a lot of thinking, and reading many positive reviews as well, I decided to go for it and booked my surgery.
Coming all the way from New Zealand, I was incredibly nervous. But from the moment I arrived, I was well taken care of. They picked me up from the airport on time and took me straight to the hospital for bloodwork. The coordinators were great, guiding me through every step, telling me what to expect, and reassuring me about Dr. You’s skills. He had two other surgeries that day, but I was nevertheless happy with the amount of time and attention I got in our consultation in the morning of the surgery day.
My before
To give you an idea, I had a big nose with a dorsal hump, a bulbous, droopy tip, and a deviated septum, although my breathing was okay. My biggest fear was ending up with an overdone, upturned nose, along with all the usual worries about complications. I brought pictures of what I wanted and what I didn’t want (mainly avoiding a nose that was too upturned). Dr. You reassured me that my expectations were realistic, but he did mention that I would be his complicated case of the day.
The Surgery Experience
To be honest, being wheeled into the surgery room without any sedatives and seeing all the doctors there was terrifying. My heart was racing, and I worried I wouldn’t fall asleep. But the next thing I knew, I woke up, shaking from the cold. I noticed red veins on my arms, which turned out to be an allergic reaction to a painkiller I didn’t know I was allergic to. I can’t say enough good things about the aftercare. Nurses were checking on me constantly, making sure the allergic reaction was clearing, my fever was going down, and that everything else was okay.
The next morning, Dr. You visited and confirmed that the surgery went very well, although it was indeed complicated because my septum was extremely deviated. He showed me before-and-after photos from the surgery table, and what. a. change. I was happy overall but still a bit worried that my nose might be too upturned.
One surprising positive outcome was that I could breathe perfectly right after surgery, and I still can. I never experienced any nasal blockage, even with the swelling and silicone tubes. This made my recovery so much easier since I could sleep well.
Throat Infection
The day of the surgery, I had a very mild sore throat, which got much worse afterward. I had a lot of phlegm, and everyone, including the doctors and Google, told me it was likely due to the breathing tube used during surgery—a common recovery symptom. But even after five days, the throat pain and phlegm didn’t let up, which started to worry me. After finishing a 10-day course of post-surgery antibiotics, it almost cleared up but then came back with a vengeance. Two weeks after the surgery, my throat pain was intense, and I had thick, brown phlegm (sorry for tmi).
Once I got back home, I saw my doctor, who confirmed I had an infection and put me on another course of antibiotics, which finally cleared it up. But those three weeks of dealing with this throat infection made my recovery much more difficult.
The Results
Now, two months post-op, I’m so happy with the results. My breathing is perfect, my nose tip has definition it never had before, and it’s not too upturned at all—trust the process! Even though everyone tells you the nose will drop, it’s easy to worry when you first see those post-op photos. But now, my nose is exactly what I wanted. There’s still some swelling on the bridge, which makes it look like there’s a slight hump, but my friends and family don’t notice it unless I point it out. Even if it stays, I’m still happy, though I’m pretty sure it’s just swelling.
Post-Op Care
The taping process after surgery is something you need to be committed to for three months. Removing the glue from your nose every morning isn’t the most fun part of the routine, but everything else is easy. I’ve been able to go about my day just like before the surgery.
Clinichub Experience
Besides the surgery results, my biggest concern was the logistics and aftercare at Clinichub. But my experience was almost too good. I always knew what to expect, I was picked up on time, and the nurses and doctors checked on me constantly after surgery. My WhatsApp messages were replied to almost instantly. My experience with Clinichub was way better than I could have imagined.
Traveling from Afar
I was really worried about taking a 27-hour flight just a week after surgery, so we decided to extend our stay for another week and do some traveling. While this sounded great in theory and had some benefits, walking around under the hot sun in public places was probably riskier and more exhausting than the flight would have been. If I could go back, I would have flown home sooner and recovered in comfort. Also, keep in mind that you’ll be in a cast the whole time—I had a purple one, so I definitely got a lot of stares!
