Completely Botched

If there was an option for 0 stars, that's what I'd rate Dr. Dhir. Let me tell you my horror story.

I found Dr. Dhir on instagram where he presents himself as a "celebrity plastic surgeon". It seems like many people have had good results with Dr. Dhir but the procedures I had done with him left me completely botched. Dhir has a nice bedside manner and I'll say he seems like a good human but the 3 procedures I had done with him were all terrible and all had to be revised.

I had a primary rhinoplasty, custom jaw implant, and Otoplasty. I picked Dr. Dhir because he seemed like a specialist for the rhino and jaw procedure but that turned out to be the furthest from the truth.

I've come to learn there are many types of Rhinoplasty procedures. In my case I needed my bridge built up rather than having a hump removed. While this was a primary rhinoplasty in my case, the technique would be much more similar to what would be required in a revision rhinoplasty. If you look at Dhir's work, he does virtually no revisions. I didn't understand this nuance at the time. He gave me what I could only characterize as a reverse nose job that was genuinely frightening to look at. While everyone is their own worse critic, it's not my nature to be a sensationalist.

It was morally irresponsible of him to take on my case when he clearly didn't have experience in the technique that was needed for my case. He harvested cartilage from my ear and a fascia from my scalp to create the nose. While I can't say I'm a rhinoplasty technique expert, I've come to learn the the best revision rhinoplasty docs use rib cartridge as the gold standard. That's not to say ear cartilage can't work, but oh boy did he screw up on me. The nose he gave me was huge, massively asymmetrical across the bridge and nostrils. It genuinely looked like I had been in a traumatic accident and needed a reconstruction. I know many people get emotional when going through a recovery process but even considering the typical swelling there is only one way to describe it: Botched.

Dr. Dhir also performed his "signature" custom jaw implant. A very expensive procedure and in many ways this was even more of a disaster. When designing the jaw implant you use reference photos and talk about your goals, but at some point you have to trust the judgement of the doctor to guide you in the right direction. The jaw implant he gave me was comically large. It was so big in fact, you could see my jaw protruding while looking at me from behind. Yes I was swollen but there is no way the swelling would have subsided enough to make me look remotely human. He tried to show me other post-op pictures of other patients to easy my concerns about swelling but their photos looked radically different. He irresponsibly placed something in my face that I have to believe any truly qualified surgeon would deem garish.

In my post-op followups I was clearly unhappy and distraught. I could tell that Dr. Dhir knew the procedures had gone terribly wrong but he gaslit me for a bit before starting to admit there was a problem. I urged him to remove the jaw implant and revise my nose. In some ways, I was already weary of him coming anywhere close to my face but I was nearly $100K in and my only hope was him fixing things. At first he refused to do it as it was absolutely mandatory that you wait for swelling to go down but again, he knew he botched me so eventually he agreed to remove the implant and try to fix the nose. Exactly 1 month after my original surgery, he brought me back into the operating room and removed the implant as well as most of the nose cartilage. But here's the kicker, he charged me for those procedures. He did't charge the full price but it was still a significant sum. You'd think his conscious would make him want to do everything in his power to fix his horrible mistakes, free of charge.

I know my review sounds quite extreme but after I recovered from my revision procedure and started looking normal again, I eventually went to another doc who does the same procedures (nose and jaw). I shared my story, my pictures, and the 3D measurements of my jaw implant. This new doc was absolutely floored by what was done.

This is strange review because everything I've written does seem pretty out of the ordinary for Dhir's work and it sounds like most people have had positive experiences. He's known for subtly which is another one of the reasons I was drawn to him. There was absolutely nothing subtle about the work he did to me. It was probably one of the most traumatic experiences of my life.

Dhir's saving grace is he was relatively kind and supportive throughout. I can imagine other docs that may have just refused to talk to me. He did care and he did urge me to come back to do a smaller jaw implant, free of charge.

I know Dr. Dhir will read this and know who I am. I'm sorry I'm leaving this scathing review but you truly mutilated my face. The jaw may have been a fluke mistake. I think those nose was a technique you know you're not skilled in and you should never taken me on. I know there is variability in plastic surgery and no guarantees can ever be made. Still, I thought I was going to the best. I certainly paid for the best. At the end of the day, this was a failure of your work and it's cost me my face.
