I can breathe again!

I Wish I Did It Sooner!!

WORTH IT
As I write this review, I'm exactly 32 days post-op and I'm already so over the moon with my results.
I originally contacted Dr.Shandilya back in 2020 but due to Covid, I decided to hold off until earlier this year (2022). Rhinoplasty is something I had always wanted to get as I was never happy with my nose growing up. This was intensified by an accident I had as a child which resulted in my nose being badly damaged (and slightly off to one side). I had done years worth of research and looked at options abroad and here in Ireland, comparing everything from reviews to the cost involved.
Dr.Shandilya immediately stood out to me and I decided to go ahead and book a consultation for April 2022. From the second I walked through the door, I had a smile on my face and knew that I was going to go ahead and book my surgery with him. In all honesty I would have had it done there and then, that's how much I trusted him straight off the bat. One of the unique things about Dr.Shanidlya is that a psychiatric evaluation pre-booking your surgery is mandatory. While this frustrated me at the time (as it added some wait time), I quickly understood and appreciated the level of care he provides to his patients. To me, it really makes sense as you're essentially changing your face!
Following my consultation in April, I had my evaluation booked for October 4th and a surgery date set for November 4th. Unfortunately Covid got in the way and due to a positive test, I had to push my date out. However, I cannot stress enough how accommodating Dr.Shandilya, Sarah and Fiona were and to my amazement, they were able to fit me in for surgery just two weeks later on November 18th. I'd also like to give a special mention to Sarah who, as I cried down the phone following the (unexpected) positive PCR was absolutely fantastic in reassuring me.
Fast forward to November 18th and I was at Bon Secours ready to go! I thought I'd be much more nervous, especially due to never having gone under, but when I got there, all I felt was excitement! I got to meet Dr.Shandilya for a few minutes before surgery and felt so at ease. I went in at 2pm and by 4:30pm I was already back in my hospital bed texting family. Dr.Shandilya stopped by to make sure all was okay and answer any questions I had.
A week later on November 25th, I had my bandages removed and was really delighted with the results. Dr.Shandilya is an artist! His work is so natural that it was almost underwhelming at the beginning but it was purely because he had altered my nose so well that it looked like it was always that way. I expected my whole face to look different but in a really positive way, that wasn't the case. During that first week, my healing was seamless. Again, I didn't know what to expect but there was genuinely no pain and very little bruising. I met a girl who had had surgery the same day as me, and had been in the bed across from me that night, and she was the exact same! We were honestly both in shock at how little pain there was. The worst part about the whole experience was trying to sleep on the first night which is near impossible due to the gauze in your nostrils. Even at that, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Once this was removed the next morning, I headed home and slept for the day to make up for it. The staff in Bon Secours were also brilliant and so pleasant to deal with.
I'm getting married in June next year and when I received my original surgery date which just over 6 months before it, I freaked out. Dr.Shandilya reassured me that he'd happily operate 4 months before. Then when I had my most recent follow up, I actually told him I'd get married in the morning, that's how happy I am with the results already. Bearing in mind that according to Dr.Shandilya, my nose hasn't even started its healing yet and still has a lot of swelling (but it doesn't look like it at all!).
One added bonus is the fact that I can breathe again!! I never realised how bad my breathing was until post-surgery and again, Dr.Shandilya advised that it will be even better in 2-3 months!
I'm SO glad I went ahead and had my surgery and in all honesty, I wish I did it sooner. I can't fault any part of my journey so far and as my nose continues to take shape and heal, I know it will only get better. If you're considering rhinoplasty, I can't recommend Dr.Shandilya enough. The level of care and attention to detail he provides is second to none and I'm so grateful I chose him as my surgeon. I'm due to meet him again in a few weeks and he has repeatedly reminded me that all follow ups are free and I can have as many as I like which is really nice to hear. If you're contemplating, take the first step and book your consultation - I promise you wouldn't regret it.

Not the update I wanted to post :-(

Rachaelos9
I was chatting to a friend today who is considering rhinoplasty and realised I never posted an update here. I am now 21 months post-op and unfortunately, more disappointed since my last review which I definitely wrote a bit prematurely. I had been of the mindset that my nose shape would improve as the months went on but unfortunately, that was not the case for me.
While the shape of my nose has improved somewhat, and my breathing is better than before, I have unfortunately been left with lumps and bumps along the bridge of my nose. Similarly, the shape we had discussed and done mockups of repeatedly in great detail (i.e. the “swoop”) was not achieved. It was only after surgery that Dr.Shandilya advised that he couldn’t take too much off which I found incredibly disheartening as all along this was never really flagged.
Now I don’t necessarily hate the shape and while I could get over that to some extent, the lumps and bumps are quite noticeable. I have since met Dr.Shandilya, whose recommendation is that we do another rhinoplasty surgery. He did advise that the recovery time etc. would not be as extensive as the first-time round as a lot of the “foundation work” is done. With that being said, I’d still be looking at approx. 4 weeks out of the gym and the cost will still be approximately 1/3 of the cost of my initial surgery so I’m looking at another €3.5 - €4k which, after saving for years to get my first surgery I simply do not have right now.
I have great respect for Dr.Shandilya and despite my disappointment, I would 100% have my revision surgery done with him. I just want to give other people the heads up of what can happen. I’m a big believer of your health is your wealth and am incredibly mindful that this is without a doubt a first world problem. However, when you’ve spent your life waiting to have something done and saved your ass off for years to make it happen, it’s disheartening when the result isn’t what you believed it would be. I am now saving again and hoping to get my revision surgery in the near future. I hope next time I post an update it will be a full 10/10!
