Dr. Porumb is the Real Deal
I came to Dr. Porumb for a revision rhinoplasty. My first had been done almost 15 years before, when I was 18. Within a year of that surgery, my nose had changed shape, developing a polybeak deformity that became more pronounced with time. Inside my nose, I could feel an excess of scar tissue and couldn't breathe well through it; Dr. Porumb, when he had the chance to examine it, told me that both valves had collapsed. Though I disliked how my nose looked after the first rhinoplasty, I tried to accept it and put a revision out of my mind. This didn't work: both the breathing and how my nose looked negatively impacted my mental and physical health. By this time I was in my thirties, I'd saved enough to do something about it.
Until I found Dr. Porumb, I wasn’t sure if the doctor I was looking for even existed -- someone who could shape a distinct and natural nose that fitted my face, while vastly improving the breathing function, all for a price I could afford. I found Dr. Porumb after a lot of research. He doesn’t have as pronounced an online presence as some other doctors, but his work was extremely natural and you could tell that he had unique artistic and technical abilities. I messaged with one of Dr. Porumb’s previous patients, who had nothing but good things to say about him, and did a video conferencing consultation. It still felt like a gamble though -- I was extremely nervous making the choice, since I couldn’t meet him in person before travelling to Oradea, and because my first surgery had been a bad experience. Thankfully, it was one that paid off.
It’s been a year since my surgery, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I love my nose and how life-changing it's been to breathe without obstruction. Dr. Porumb in person was a very kind, grounded and reassuring presence. My first doctor had been the opposite, so I really appreciated his manner and how well he put me at ease, answering all my questions with patience and knowledge. I did all my tests in Oradea, which went fine, every medical professional I met there was gentle and highly skilled. I booked everything on my own (no medical package or anything like that), which went well if slightly hectic (I got a little lost and don’t speak Romanian so asking questions in some situations was tricky). If the same is true for you, make things as logistically easy for yourself as possible (ie, give yourself plenty of time, download a translation app, maybe hire a taxi for the day). On Oradea -- it’s a really beautiful town, stunning architecture, largely untouched by tourism, one reason being it’s hard to get to. I flew to Budapest and then took the train (about 4-5 hours). I like slow travel and I was in no rush, so this was no problem for me. The people I met were nice and I enjoyed being in Oradea. I had a weekend in Budapest after, and that was nice too.
I was grateful to spend the first night in the clinic; there was a nurse there looking after me and another patient. I booked an Airbnb and had filled it with a week’s worth of groceries the day before, and spent the following week recovering there. This wasn’t exactly a comfortable time, but it wasn’t painful either. It was a much better experience than the first (which had been very painful). At the end of the week, Dr. Porumb removed the dressings and I left. He gave me clear care instructions, which I followed closely, and my nose healed exactly as predicted. Initially there was a lot of swelling so I could see the general shape, but the exact result was more of a slow reveal over a period of time. For example, there remained mild swelling in the tip for about three months. Nevertheless, this was much more noticeable to me than anyone else, and I still really liked it. I’ve simply continued to like it more and more. When I first came home, I told some friends; what surprised me was that even though there was a distinct difference, no one noticed until I told them. The result was so natural looking and fitted me so well, it just seemed like I’d always had this nose. It’s not like a nose job solved all my problems in life, but it did solve one specific problem -- that of a deep insecurity which had hampered me all through adulthood. I was worried that if I removed this one specific source of self-loathing, the loathing would simply move onto a different part of my body. But that never happened. It’s just gone. I feel a lot of relief and gratitude.
Dr. Porumb knows his worth. He’s studied with some of the best in the business and he’s passionate about what he does. During my consultations and check-ups, I asked him about himself and learned that he’s had opportunities to work in more prominent locations, but he’s from Oradea and returned to be near his friends and family. Honestly, this makes him the dream doctor - an affordable, world-class surgeon with unique skill and artistic vision. He’s strongly driven by an inner desire to excel, and cares deeply about each surgery and each patient. My nose was a very complicated and challenging case -- revision rhinoplasties always are, and my previous surgeon had not been skilled -- but I can’t imagine any improvements on what Dr. Porumb has done. He gave me a subtle, perfectly proportioned nose I can breathe through, and it healed without pain or complication -- I can vouch for this a year on. It was an open rhinoplasty, but my scar healed so well it’s no longer even visible. If you’re searching for the right doctor, it makes no sense to go to anyone other than Dr. Porumb.
