I had my surgery around this time last year (April 2018) with Dr Bulent in Istanbul.
Pre-Surgery
I flew out to Istanbul a couple of days before the surgery and was picked up by Estetik International, dropped at my hotel and greeted by my translator (courtesy of Estetik). Fortunately the hotel I was booked into was right next door to the hospital!
Day of the surgery
I was stunned at the fact that the FIRST and ONLY time I met with Dr Bulent was before I was rolled into the operating theatre. This interaction lasted no longer than 2 minutes! I went forwards with the risk as I already committed myself to this procedure and relied on the positive feedback Dr Bulent has gained from patients.
Post Surgery
In all honesty I was not prepared mentally and emotionally for what would follow. Post surgery I was surprisingly not in much pain. The following day my whole face was swollen and I was bruised badly around my eyes. I was given around 5-6 different type of medication to take over the next 2 weeks including antibiotics, and pain killers which really helped with the discomfort. The worst part of recovery was feeling congested and uncomfortable - there were multiple times I would end up walking to the hospital in the middle of the night crying because I was in some pain and couldn't breath or sleep.
Removal of splint
This day brought a bundle of nerves. I was incredibly anxious but also excited at how my nose turned out and being able to breath normally without the splint! Once the splint was removed I had one look in the mirror and broke down. My nose was massively swollen, half the length of my old nose and so upturnt… it felt like my worst nightmare. Of course the nurses reassured me that it was 'beautiful' (lol) and that it was normal and would improve In the upcoming days. It did.
Recovery
I flew back to the UK 2 days post splint removal, by this time there was a visible improvement as the swelling had gone down a little and my nose had dropped slightly. Back in the UK I took 1 week off work (thank god) and followed the care instructions from the nurses. I stayed in contact quite regularly with my the nurse based in the UK and the translator for a couple of months post surgery. It took 2-3 days for the swelling to go down post op. The bruising around the eyes disappeared fully after 2 weeks. Swelling went down largely during the first month and around 2 and a 1/2-3 months I began to feel happy with the result!!
Fast forward to this day I do not regret undergoing a rhinoplasty and I HIGHLY recommend the procedure for anyone who is seriously considering this procedure. HOWEVER, I highly advise that you go for a surgeon who you are confident in and have met before and after surgery.
I am massively disappointed in the lack of interaction Dr Bulent had with me on this entire journey which caused me a lot of anxiety. I advise Dr Bulent to look past the procedure... these are patients who have put their trust in you and have put their physical appearance at risk. I travelled alone which made the experience x10 scarier, without the british nurse (Naz), translator (Nancy) and the wonderful nurses at Estetik I really don't think I would've coped as much as I did being alone.
Overall its been a real rollercoaster of a journey.
