Subtle, natural outcome - my breathing has improved immensely

Reading so many five star reviews on here about Duncan is what inspired me to choose him as my surgeon and I wasn’t disappointed.

I came across Duncan’s work when researching rhinoplasty surgeons in London and had nearly given up hope. I’m now 33 and have disliked the shape and size of my nose since I was 13, but I had always been too afraid of going under anaesthetic to do anything about it.

I also used the excuse that I hadn’t found the right surgeon. I would go through periods of searching only to find that many results looked quite inconsistent or too “done”… which resulted in me giving up as I didn’t want to regret my decision to have my nose operated on.

As soon as I saw Duncan’s Instagram posts, I knew that he would be the best surgeon for me. I’m personally a big believer in going to a specialist, and seeing that rhinoplasty was Duncan’s specialty sealed the deal. Each of his “after” photos looked so natural and the nose was always in harmony with the rest of the face. Nothing looked too “pinched” or “fake”, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I had a bump on my nose that made me extremely self-conscious of my side profile and a strange dent to the front, which made me feel uncomfortable when having my photo taken as it would catch the light. I also had a deviated septum and struggled to breathe at times.

I arranged a consultation and booked directly through Duncan’s PA. She took care of all appointments, so I only dealt with the Cadogan Clinic staff when visiting the hospital and they were very kind, as many others have mentioned.

I waited three months for my first consultation and I went to the clinic with an exact idea of what I wanted. Duncan took the time to listen to me and explained what was not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, as I wanted a septo-rhinoplasty, which would require some compromise between the two.

He created morphs - whilst explaining that they’re a guide rather than a guarantee - and allowed me to take some reference images of them away to think over. I soon realised that Duncan’s morphs were much better suited to the proportion of my face rather than the (smaller) nose I had initially asked for.

The whole time he was very patient but very realistic, which is what I really admired about him. He was not afraid to say no to certain things or to suggest visiting another surgeon as he doesn’t offer front morphs. This really showed that he cared a lot about his craft and had strong boundaries and ethics within his work.

He called a few days after our first consultation to talk through our discussions and to answer any further questions, which I greatly appreciated.

My initial consultation was in the November and I called in April to book my operation in for August. Duncan called me again a week before my operation to answer any final questions and the next time I saw him was on surgery day.

The day of surgery I was extremely nervous but Duncan and his team were amazing at putting my mind at ease. His anaesthesiologist Aimen is one of the kindest people I’ve met and reassured me that the risks would be very low. The hospital was also a very calm and peaceful place to be.

Waking up from surgery, the nurses were extremely accommodating and I left a few hours after surgery. Once home, I did bruise quite a lot post-op but I’m very fair skinned, so I expected this to happen. I can honestly say I had zero pain and didn’t take any painkillers the whole week of recovery. Duncan was also on-hand via WhatsApp to promptly answer any questions and concerns that I had, which I really appreciated.

A week later, I went back to have my cast removed and even though my nose was still swollen I was delighted with the outcome. The nurse applied tape that was left on for another week and I took this off at home myself once the time was up.

I honestly couldn’t believe how great my nose looked already, even after two weeks. I continued to tape every night for a month after (as recommended by Duncan) and this made a great difference to reducing the swelling too.

It’s testament to Duncan’s skill how natural the result already looks and I immediately felt so happy to have finally taken the plunge. I’ve gone from constantly checking photos or looking in the mirror to see how “bad” my nose looked to checking and feeling so happy with my decision and wishing I'd done it sooner.

Aside from my family, I have not mentioned to anyone that I’ve had surgery on my nose… and not one person has commented or asked if it’s different. That’s how subtle and natural the outcome is!

My breathing has also improved immensely and I no longer mouth breathe as much when sleeping or exercising. It’s amazing to feel the life-changing benefits of one surgery with a relatively short recovery time.

I am so grateful to have found a surgeon who is as skilled, patient and kind as Duncan. He really is a one in a million and has changed my life and my confidence forever.
