19 Year Old Rhino/Septoplasty
I had a rhinoplasty/septoplasty with Dr. Mitchell Henry of Lincoln, NE this past December. I am very, very pleased with the experience and with the results. I visited six different doctors in both Nebraska and South Dakota before deciding on Dr. Mitchell Henry. Him and his staff made me the most comfortable and he came across as the most knowledgeable and had the best understanding of what I wanted.
I initially came in due to problems breathing and to correct the appearance of my nose after breaking it several years ago. It turned out that I had a deviated septum and multiple bone spurs that needed to be corrected through septoplasty, in addition to the rhinoplasty to correct the appearance of my nose.
The fist day of recovery was not bad- I was on percoset, cocaine (who knew this was a common drug used during rhinoplasty?), and the anesthesia, so I felt nothing. My drip pad needed to be changed every two hours. I threw up twice and did not eat anything.
On day two, my swelling and bruising became apparent. My eyelids were black and I had dark rings under my eyes. I still had my drip pad under my nose that needed to be changed every two hours. I started to drink a lot of water and eat saltines.
Day three was the worst. The swelling was so bad that I could hardly see and my cheeks were worse than when I had my wisdom teeth removed. My drip pad was less bloody, but still had to be worn and changed every few hours. I did not eat this day as swelling was too much.
After day three, everything got better. Day by day, the swelling and bruising decreased and by day 5, I was no longer taking any medication for pain or nausea. I could drive by myself at day 10 and returned to work on day 13.
Internal packing and sutures were taken out one week post-op. Nose was retaped and resplinted.
I just had my splint taken off today (two week post-op) and Dr. Henry says my nose is still very swollen and that I will notice new changes day by day. However, I am very happy with results already! Nose is currently about the same size as my old nose, but there is an obvious change in the bump on the bridge of my nose, and it is no longer crooked in the slightest. Nostrils are still very small and different sizes (due to swelling) and I have no feeling in the tip. I can breathe perfectly now and am able to smell/taste things again. Not allowed to blow my nose yet.
