Revision rhinoplasty the most traumatic experience of my life

Most Traumatic Experience of my Life

This was an extremely difficult and traumatic event. I sought out the best for a revision rhinoplasty with the initial having been done over 12 years ago. It is worth the time and fees to have multiple consultations with d/f doctors. If for nothing else to compare how they interact with you as the individual and see what they can do and what they cannot. I did not do this and took Dr Guyuron at his word. The result is devastating. Not only is the nose wider than before, I have new breathing issues that did not exist before. One nostril is always blocked and one drips non stop. I cannot control it. This never was the case or was a concern but rather only started after this surgery. One side on nose looks almost deformed with this slight bubbling again that wasn’t there prior. In addition the cartilage that just had to be taken from the rib is in the bottom of the nostril placed awkwardly and causes a noticeable bump. again none of this was present prior to surgery clearly a result of what dr guyuron preformed. As one can imagine I brought up these concerns at follow up appointments. I never did speak to the doc day of surgery he only had his resident come greet me and sign a consent regarding the harvesting of cartilage as they failed to factor this in to pricing and surprised me with an increase of $3K a wk before surgery. The 1 wk later post op dr guyuron again wasn’t there, instead a nurse removed the splint to reveal my horror with the result. I was assured it was simply swelling and would look better but to my dismay never did. When I finally saw dr guyuron a month after surgery he actually said it was thin enough and uttered the words ‘ [I] would look like Michael Jackson if it was thinner’ I promise who it is no where near that thin. When I gently raised concerns regarding the extra ‘piece’ of cartilage near the nostril and bubble affect on one side he pretended to not notice. He actually abruptly left the room this being the first time I even saw him prior to surgery. I was left In tears. At the 3 month follow up I ensured my husband came with due to the cold nature I was treated to as a female alone with a doctor that perhaps resented that a patient would question his work. This time while admitting no fault acknowledged the nose wasn’t straight and the extra cartilage could be removed with add’l surgery. However this would cost me $3K more. I was curious about this as all the items not right about the nose were directly related to his work. These things were not issues on the prior nose. His reasoning? He didn’t perform the initial surgery 12+ years ago so apparently the original doctor can be blamed in his opinion for his own faulty work. As I replay all that transpired and my enormous regret over this whole surgery here at the 1 year mark since it was performed. I am disheartened. Hurt that this Dr Guyuron didn’t care about me as his patient. Who sought out his help and instead of saying I cannot do what you need took my money with no concern or care. For putting my nose in what I thought were trusted and skilled hands to find that maybe this is someone who’s simply going through the motions until he retires and taking patients on nothing more than his reputation. There were befores and after.. amazing work only to realize these were the winners. That’s not everyone he put the good work out, not all the work. The photos that were taken of me with the projected result..: his promised percentage of how the pictures nearly always match the outcome. No, not is my case. And after they have your money, they do not care. It was always about money never about the patient, the procedure or good work. I was never an insecure person even with the nose I didn’t like. This one, Dr Guyurons work, I have never been as self conscious about my looks as I am now. I implore you please think long and hard, pray about letting this doctor perform on you.
