Considering Revision. Advice please

UPDATED FROM frankieflowers

Honest Feedback Needed Please

Hi there, Am considering revision rhino. My mum (the only person I have told I am unhappy with my nose) thinks I'm being ridiculous and have body dysmorphia.
When I look at my nose, i see too much projection, beak like, a too pointy tip & a scooped out quality.
Can people give me their honest opinion? thank you!

I do not think you are being ridiculous at all. I really like your pre-op front view and tip. Do you think too much was taken from your bridge?
Thanks so much for replying Helentque. Yes much too much from my bridge. I think my pre-op nose was much nicer! I broke my nose when I was 10 and had terrible breathing problems & a bump. I wanted minimal physical changes with my focus being on breathing. And he changed my nose completely. Thank you again. It's so hard to know if you're going crazy when it's your own face!
Did he actually even help with your breathing? They say "form often follows function". Incidentally, it was actually a septoplasty which set off this whole rhinoplasty journey for me.
You are not going crazy. I'm sorry you're on this journey of having to think about revision (I think you were on target to want a minimal change) but good outcomes do happen in the hands of some super experienced and talented rhino surgeons.
My breathing is a bit better but I broke my nose when I was 10 so can't really remember what it feels like to breathe normally. I got a seotoplasty initially too! Was never too concerned with the shape until this disaster. Yes I think I will go and see a top revision person. Have you had rhino or revision? Where are you based? Thanks for your comments :)
I'm in the UK. After the Septoplasty, I had a saddle nose deformity. That was followed by a septorhinoplasty with ear cartilage graft which looked absolutely horrendous like a bunched up knot of cartilage on the bridge. I had a revision which did improve things but my nose was still deviated. All of that was was years ago between '99 and 2002. Finally, last year, I had a very good revision with Professor Palma in Milan whom I chose after a lot of research. Prior to that, people told me my nose looked okay but it was galling to have a nose significantly less attractive than my original nose so I think I understand where you are coming from.

All your nose needed was a slight refining/softening of the bump, maybe not even taking it down completely as it was a classical looking nose to my eye.
I can completely relate with both of you. I had a septoplasty that was not supposed to change the outside of my nose. I wish I could go back in time and not do the surgery. Too much was removed from my midvault and now my tip looks bigger/wider and I have a small bump on the top of my bridge and a dent above my tip. It is amazing how minor changes to the nose can change the entire face. I do not feel like me and want this fixed. But I am terrified of another surgery. I went to a top doctor in this field too. :(
I think you look great- Your nose looks natural and feminine, Ive learned theres no guarantees with revisionsif I were you I wouldn't dare touch it.
You have an overly resected bridge, meaning that it has been scooped out. Theoretically, the nose should start at the upper lid crease while yours seems to not. Feel free to ask doctors here on RealSelf about your nose and consult in person with local doctors to get professional opinions. Good luck!
Thanks so much for the reply. That's what I thought. I'm just nervous asking only doctors as (I know this is cynical) but they obviously benefit from telling you to go ahead with surgery. So I really appreciate your feedback, thanks again
i agree with groundhogday. not to be rude but i have the same issue, with mine. the scooped quality doesn't look like your old nose which came out towards the camera. I dont' mind the projection at all, seeing that i am missing mine but the tip is pointier, and might be dome sutured, like mine is. to me the larger tip looks better on camera. hope to not hurt you in any way, just want to tell you, i literally had no idea what had happened to me until someone told me. all the best and be careful!
I am very grateful for your feedback thanks so much. You have echoed my feelings exactly. So devastating isn't it!!
You look just fine. Please don't do anymore it may cause problems you don't look odd your very pretty don't ruine what you have ?
Have you seen Lucien Ion on Harley Street London?
No am based in Australia. He sounds good though. Thank you!

Considering Revision. Advice please

Hi there,
I am writing for some advice please.
I broke my nose when I was 10 and was left with a different nose - wider and with a bump. I also could no longer breathe from then on and lost most of my sense of smell.
The breathing thing was so exhausting and so I got a septoplasty (where my appearance was not changed) when I was 19 but it made no difference to my breathing.
When I was 30 I decided I couldn't handle anymore of being so tired by not being able to breathe so I booked in with a Dr in Sydney's Bondi Junction. Around that time the shape of my nose had also started to bother me. I became increasingly aware of the fact it wasn't the nose I was born with and, I had started to feel, it didn't suit my face. The Dr I saw agreed that with a very minimal change, it would look a lot better and nobody would even notice. I told him how much I still wanted to look completely like myself. He showed me photos of what it would look like and I booked in. Well he completely changed my nose. I feel absolutely devastated, nothing like myself, have real trouble looking in the mirror and just feel so devastated, self conscious and mortified that I have had such an obvious nose job. While my breathing has improved quite a lot, I obviously wish I had never touched my nose. I don't know if I am overreacting but I really can't handle the new shape - even from the front, i think it is pointy and beak-like. My nose from the front had never bothered me before.
I am considering revision but i am terrified.
Could anyone please offer some thoughts and advice. Is positive revision realistic? Am I justified in feeling so upset?
I am now 32 and it has been 2+ years since the primary rhinoplasty.
Thanks so much for your help

I can fully relate to what you are going through. I wanted a nose repair and my surgeon thoroughly changed me. Also gave me a pointy tip, just like you got. I think that it just depends on how much it affects you--if you can live day to day and your nose issues don't cause you much worry, and you can live a happy life, I think you should just leave it. But from your words here it sounds like it's really causing you a lot of distress. My results have devastated me as well and I'm seeking out a revision surgeon. Just be slow and thorough in your search. Also, be willing to travel overseas if necessary. That's my advice. Hope it helps some. Wish you all the best in your nose journey.
Thanks so much for your comment. It's so devastating isn't it. I am currently looking into revision specialists. Such a scary thought but is hopefully worth the risk. All the best with your outcome too!
I'm going through same. I just wanted a hump removed but he completely changed my face. I hate it! It's so devastating. I also now can't breathe. I wish you best of luck!!! Hang in there. I pray you find a good surgeon for your revision.
Good luck to you too!!
Hi, I had similar result after my primary rhinoplasty and after almost 2 decades never convinced with any surgeons vision that my botched nose would get better. Finally I got good feeling about dr. Cochran who fixed my breathing and esthetic issues. Good luck
Thanks so much Selli for your response. So you are very pleased you went ahead with revision eventually?
Hi, yes very much! Dr. Cochran is a great surgeon for revisions. He is an ENT and not only fixed aesthetic of my botched nose but also breathing issues are gone. I use to have chronic rhinitis what really had a big impact on my entire life. Walking around with a tissue whole year around was hard but also embarrassing.
That is so great to hear, am very happy for you. I have breathing issues too. I am booked in with an ENT/plastic surgeon in Sydney so will see what he says. Thank you again for writing :) and enjoy life with your new nose!
Forgot to mention that I completely understand what you mean that your front view did not bother you in the past as it does now. I had the same after primary my nose tip was to pointy and after few years started to get crocked & droopy. I hated my front view I only had photos from side angles. It's for sure nothing unfixable so no worries just make sure to find a surgeon who is good in revisions and only does noses!
Great to hear. So pleased there is hope, it's so depressing at times. Thank you again :)
I concur with Selli0805 that seeking a surgeon skilled in revisions, preferably focusing solely on rhinoplasty is the wisest route IMO. Sure, some suregeons who are general plastics may appear to have good results initially but 1,2 years down the line when swelling has reduced and scar contracture is distorting results, it can be a different story. I'm also not a fan of general plastics who make up for lack of finesse by using grafting materials from external sources - silicone, animal skin etc. But that is just my opinion.
*surgeons
Or maybe better to say not necessarily distorting results but revealing the true underlying structure left behind.
If you can breathe my opinion is not to get a revision. Being able to breathe well has a lot of health (and beauty) benefits such as improved complexion to feeling better, sleeping better. The latest news I read is breathing well helps regulate weight (not that you look like you have that problem). It takes a while to get use to a different nose. Those that had lots of drama surrounding our noses often tend to focus on our noses. The rest of the world is looking at us as a 'whole' and not focusing on our noses unless something is seriously wrong. Your nose blends in and does not stand out as a noticeable problem. It's soft and feminine looking to me. These surgeries are serious. My situation is kinda like yours..but I'm older. Noses change with age. Lots of us with nose drama may need surgeries later for health reasons..and each time we get these surgeries the nose is more compromised. If there is a structural problem that needs to be fixed to protect breathing and appearance then yes I'd do it but are you at this point?
