Life Altering Regret

Life Altering Regret

Dr. Schmidt performed a revision rhinoplasty on me in 2023 and the results are disastrous. The consent form states that we this Dr & I, agreed on an open surgical procedure. However, when I was under anesthesia, helpless on his operating table without my knowledge Dr Schmidt decided to perform a closed surgical procedure. It is widely known that for a revision an open surgical procedure is a must. You will not see my picture in his gallery because he knew what he did and how he messed me up. He ruined my life. Yes I decided to go through with this but he did not follow our agreement. During the consultation he stated he did not think he could give me the results I wanted. I accepted what he said and stated if he couldn't perform the procedure I'll seek someone who could. He then said he could perform the procedure and give me my results but because I hurt his ego he decided to hurt me. All his gaslighting attempts to make me accept he only had good intentions still couldn't make be believe he didn't intentionally hurt me. Everyone around me could not believe his gaslighting attempts either. Be careful with this Dr please and learn from my mistake in believing he had good intentions to give me the results I wanted. If you want to see before and after please let me know. As of now.. it's painful to show. Which iscwh6 he will not put my example on his gallery. The date of my procedure was in 2023 but I put 2024 because you all need to know.

Response from Dr. Schmidt:
Thank you for sharing your feedback. While privacy laws prevent us from addressing anyone’s care in detail, we can share our general philosophy. Surgical approach — whether open or endonasal (closed) — is always discussed beforehand, and no procedure is undertaken without informed consent. Both options are safe when chosen appropriately. In our practice, the closed approach is the standard for the majority of rhinoplasty procedures, as it provides excellent exposure and results while minimizing the risks of external scarring and the additional anesthesia time associated with open procedures. The open technique is reserved for cases where the added exposure is absolutely necessary, such as when placing certain grafts. We are transparent when we feel expectations may not align with what surgery can realistically achieve, and in those cases, we may recommend that individuals consider seeking another opinion. It is also important to note that outcomes are influenced by many factors: some within Dr. Schmidt’s control, some within the patient’s control, and others that no one can control. Even when results are technically excellent, appreciation of improvement is subjective, and satisfaction cannot be guaranteed. Ultimately, the decision to proceed always rests with the patient once risks, benefits, and alternatives are fully reviewed. Our role is to provide guidance and clarity, never pressure. Photos can only be used with appropriate consent. We remain committed to honesty, patient autonomy, and the highest standards of safety. We encourage anyone with questions to contact our office directly.
