Revision Rhinoplasty - SO HAPPY - Vancouver
WORTH IT
My rhinoplasty journey starts back in 2011 when I had my first surgery. Unfortunately, I had anxiety about the swelling once the cast was removed (it can be overwhelming).
At the time, it was hard, but I was convinced to take a picture to eventually look back at. The swelling of course subsided and became a nose I loved yet hated. Yes, I’d had my bump removed and other requests met, but I knew I wasn’t going to be happy as my septum was not straight and that’s something that continued to bother me for years. I also didn’t like my profile on my left side and refused to take photos on that side and I had a bump of cartilage or scar tissue appear on my right side that I hated; but the fear of the swelling I had experienced (as it was my first surgery and with that comes the unknown) had me stay clear of getting it done again.
But my nose looked back at me every day in the mirror and I realized it wasn’t something I wanted to live with regardless of my fear to do it again.
Fast forward to last year, after I had seen a hand full of doctors throughout the years, I got referred to Dr. Bartlett by my twin sister!!! She had undergone surgery by him in 2018, so after I saw her results, I decided to meet him.
Dr. Bartlett (I call him Dr. B) was lovely. He answered ALL of my ‘many’ questions. He then did some images up on the computer for me to get an idea of what the results would /could be. I loved it!
Noreen, his right hand lady, answered my numerous emails daily, as well as calls, and rebooked my surgery a couple times. (I knew he was the one, but again was hesitant to pull the trigger, so I didn’t book the surgery until 10 months later).
Today, I can say, it was the BEST decision I made. I am happy that I did it!
It’s been 6 weeks post op now and I’m loving it. The septum, you can see, is drastically straighter and I had no bruising at all. I had swelling and continue to be, but nothing as before as it was more focused on the tip/nostrils this time. I went back to work on the 11th day after surgery and no one was the wiser. The swelling wasn’t noticeable to others.
The nose at this stage is slightly numb/sensitive still and it changes every day. I was told 90% swelling goes in 3-4 months and the remaining 10% throughout the rest of the year. Patience is key; even though it’s the hardest part.
Dr. B met me in the room for a chat before the surgery and he and his staff at the Cambie Surgical Centre are wonderful. Dr. B called my sister to give them an over view of your surgery and then the centre calls you the next day to confirm how your first night was and checks to see if you have any questions.
We did the cast removal a week later and made a follow appointment for the next week after to make sure all was healing smoothly.
I will be going back in March for an additional follow up.
I’m excited for each day to pass as I see it continuing to change!
