Devastating Experience with Florian Bast (UK)
My primary goal was to correct a deviated septum and make minor aesthetic refinements. Unfortunately, Dr. Bast showed no regard for my aesthetic requests, which I acknowledge was a risk I took. However, the complications that followed go far beyond that. My nasal bridge was left completely over-resected, with the right nasal bone collapsed inwardly and nerve pain resulting from likely aggressive osteotomies.
After seeking second opinions from two top ENT surgeons in the United States, both specialising in reconstructive surgery, it was confirmed that rib cartilage was required to address the structural damage caused by Dr. Bast. Both surgeons agreed that my nasal bone collapse and over-resection were direct results of my surgery which was inadequate and damaging.
As a result, I had to undergo reconstructive surgery with rib grafting in September 2024, performed by a leading reconstructive surgeon in the USA. During the procedure, it was confirmed that my right nasal bone was collapsed and the bridge of my nose had been over-resected, necessitating the addition of rib cartilage to restore structure. My septum, which was the primary reason for my initial surgery, remained deviated to the left. Additionally, I now suffer from nerve pain on the left side of my nose, which the surgeon confirmed is likely permanent and will be a lifelong issue. The recovery process has been physically and emotionally challenging – my nose required extensive reconstruction, and the healing process has been slow. Additionally, I now have a visible scar on my chest from where the rib cartilage was harvested.
I feel completely violated, and I know this could have been avoided. I am aware that there have been other complaints about this doctor, as I have found multiple patients online attempting to raise awareness. This is not a trivial aesthetic issue; the damage done to my nose is serious and in my honest opinion, this surgeon poses a real danger to others.
