Botched revision - the entire tip of my nose is now on the left side
Update: Adding Photos of my Nose After Dr. Rawnsley
Dr. Rawnsley does not possess the skills to fix a deviated septum and he should have been honest about that rather than operating on me twice with false confidence and messing my nose up further.
Botched Revision - Stay Away!
When it comes down to it, Dr. Rawnsley botched my nose. I have debated writing this review for some time, but if it helps someone else avoid the pain that I have gone through, it is worth it.
I broke my nose in 2011 which left me with an extremely deviated septum. I always dreamed of getting my nose fixed and being able to breath properly through it again.
Finally in 2019, after what I thought was adequate research, I decided to go with Dr. Rawnsley for my rhinoplasty/septoplasty. He made me feel very comfortable like it was no big deal, so naïvely I trusted him. My nose was not perfect after this surgery, but it was better. He blamed my septum for the fact that the tip of my nose was no longer even (as it was before surgery). I was also still having trouble breathing even 1.5 years after surgery.
I expressed my concerns to Dr. Rawnsley and he told me another surgery was my only option. He completely downplayed the entire operation, telling me that it was going to be way easier for me and him this time. Well that was just a lie. I know now that revision rhinoplasty is extremely difficult, takes much more skill and has a much longer healing time.
Unfortunately, I trusted Dr. Rawnsley again and let him perform a revision rhinoplasty in 2021.
This was one of the biggest mistakes I have made in my lifetime.
I am left with a completely botched nose. He over-corrected when trying to fix what he had done to the tip and the entire tip of my nose is now on the left side. He implanted a graft that will now need to be removed as it is creating a hump on the bridge of my nose. He also somehow made my septum worse and I can barely breathe through my nose at all now.
When I brought these concerns back to Dr. Rawnsley, he told me that my nose looks pretty good and I should be happy. He also pointed out that no one has a perfect nose, not even him. He was completely dismissive of the additional issues he had caused.
When I asked about details of my surgery he told me “I don’t know I would have to get your chart” but never got the chart. He truly didn’t remember what he had done to my nose when I went in for follow up visits.
I pressed him for options because of my worsened breathing issues and deformed nose. He basically shrugged and said he could operate again if I wanted to.
Dr. Rawnsley has taken many photos of me and my nose during this process. I have requested those photos to be released to me multiple times and his office just stopped responding.
Needless to say, I will not be returning to Dr. Rawnsley.
I have begun the long process of finding a new surgeon that I can trust to fix the disaster that Dr. Rawnsley created.
It is so important to do your research and trust your gut when it comes to this process. I only hope that this review helps people like me to avoid choosing the wrong surgeon for their needs.
