Retin A / Tazorac

I’m a youthful looking 53 but boy do I work hard at it. This is about beautiful skin, and the role Retin A / Tazorac plays in making me look 40 instead of 53. (Quick commercial here tho — if you are looking for the best dermatologist who gives the best support & skin care products in central Alabama, the very best is Dr. Steven Mackey and his staff! They are so knowledgeable, friendly, professional and kind.)
I’ve been using the synthetic version of Retin A called TAZORAC for 5-6 years now. Same price and strength as Retin A, but I get more bang for my buck. I prefer Tazorac cream because some research indicates it’s slightly more effective than Retin A.

Great to hear! I use Tazorac cream too. I purchase it from a Canadian Pharmacy online. The price for the 30gm tube is $76. Can't beat that!

Good stuff isn’t it... I’d bathe in it if i could, LOL! I actually pay $60 for the same size generic by Rx from CVS... if you can get a dermatologist to prescribe it perhaps it would be cheaper by the tube?

But you had a face lift right?

No facelift yet! But I’m shopping for a neck lift. Darn Platysmal bands don’t respond to Botox so my neck is starting to look corded giving me that dreaded “cobra neck” under the chin.. AND I just noticed my neck skin is starting to look creepy. I’m willing to take my time and find the right doctor, tho!

Not YET but I am planning to when the time is right! My doc says he will tell me when it’s time. In the meantime i have had great results with “liquid facelift” procedures; gotten JuvaDerm at my cheekbones twice in 5 years. Also Botox every 6 months for my forehead and crows feet. About to try the PDO threadlift on my philtrum (to shorten the area between lip & nose), neck and lower face tho, so wish me luck!

This is so awesome! I've been using Avene retrinal 0.1 and I like it! Is this similar?

Not sure about Retrinal — the terms “retinoids”’and “retinol” are actually not interchangeable... the best stuff known to improve fine lines and wrinkles is Vitamin A — the synthetic JW marketed as tazarotene (TAZORAC) and the “natural” is tretinoin (RETIN A)... if Retrinal doesn’t have one of these two things in it then I’m not sure about it...

Hmmm I haven’t heard of that — I’m so satisfied with my TAZORAC that I haven’t really paid any attention to other retinol/retinoid treatments... Retin A & Tazorac are still the gold standard!

Do you apply it all over face AND under eyes? What about neck?

I would bathe in the stuff if I could haha. From my hairline to my boobs, I use it daily! Sometimes I take a break for a week or two. Always use sunscreen. Flanking and peeling does occur sometimes but I gently exfoliate every day. Sometimes I get overly enthusiastic about exfoliation and abrade my skin a little, so remember to be careful. It’s worth it!!!

I am 63 and I have been using Retin A since I was in my late 20's. I was born and raised in Arizona and like everyone else, we did not take too many sun precautions. But the moment my derm gave me a prescription and a lecture about protecting my skin, I began wearing hats and sunscreen. Retin-A was the impetus for that. So on 2 fronts, Retin A was well worth it. I still get compliments on my skin.
