7 months out now and loving the results
I became something of a medical phobic after...
I felt a little crazy when I started researching plastic surgeons. Honestly, it would have been more me to have looked in every nook and cranny for months before I made a decision. But an acquaintance of mine had had work done by Dr. Weston, and was happy with the results. The reviews here were good, and a free consult was available through Realself. So I went in. I am still rather amazed I jumped and didn't back out at the last minute. Spending that amount of money and going through a surgery I didn't have to have was totally not me. Turns out it is the new me.
Provider Review
One of the reasons I chose the Austin Weston center is that cosmetic surgery is what they do. Period. There are lots of years of experience in that building, and Dr. Weston has the most. The entire staff is professional, warm, and welcoming. The consultants I spoke with prior to my procedure totally got that I was terrified. Appearance is part of who we are as women, and in my case, this was my FACE we were talking about. They are VERY patient. As is the nursing staff during and after your procedure. One thing of particular note is that they are very thorough when preparing your support person(s) to care for you afterwards. They provide a detailed medication chart, along with lots of other "what to expect" information, and they make sure your support person understands everything. I am convinced that Dr. Weston is actually an elf. :) He's not tall, slender, has a spritely kind of energy, and yet radiates this Zen vibe that all will somehow be well. He listens, he takes his time with you, and he is quite self assured about what he does. I originally just wanted a lower face and neck lift. Dr. Weston explained that without the mid face lift, my face could end up looking unbalanced and more like I had had work done. So I just went with his instincts, and I think my results were the better for it. So, the down and dirty. One of the things on the wall in one of the exam rooms says that cosmetic surgery is for the courageous. I absolutely agree. I had read some testimonials here on Realself in which women talked about their hotel stays after surgery, comparing them to spa experiences. They talked about having no pain and feeling fab after a few days. Okay, so everyone is different. But I had a mid and lower face and neck lift, fat injections to my lips and face, and upper and lower blephs. For two days after the procedure I HURT. I needed big time pain meds. Although I got off the oxy and onto ibuprofen by day three. I did not need drains, though, and I got to take the compression bandages off the next day at my check up. For the next two weeks I was fairly miserable, but improving. I had to sleep elevated on a bed wedge, on my back, for several months. Somewhere around 5 weeks I turned a corner, and things started getting steadily better. But this was major surgery, and at 4 months out I still have numbness in places and tightness around my cheeks, neck, and eyes. I've adapted, but it can be annoying at times. Dr. Weston told me that I would still be healing over the next 6 months, and this will gradually fade. So, go into this knowing that, depending on your healing rate, this is not a walk in the park. My end results, however, were worth it. And at this stage, I can feel that I had surgery, but no one can see it. Dr. Weston is an artist. He did an incredible job on my face. The bottom lines with cosmetic surgery are 1) Do you look younger? and 2) Do you look natural? He hit it out of the park on both. People who don't know me have no idea I had work done, and I'm getting age estimates anywhere between 32 and 38. People who do know me agree that I look like myself, only younger. The weird alien look you have going on for a month or two afterwards settled into more normal contours perfectly. I'm not entirely happy with some of the pics I uploaded here. The 'before' shots taken at the center are done with very harsh lighting, and I didn't look that awful in normal photographs. But they use the same lighting for the "after" shots, which really does emphasize how much improvement there is. On the flip side, I think my results look better in person than in the "after" shots. I also uploaded shots from my phone camera. One thing I hadn't noticed was that one of my eyes is slightly larger and rounder than the other. It's there in the "before" shots, but since the surgery it seems more emphasized. Only really shows in pics, so I'm not complaining. Overall, I am extremely happy with my results from Dr. Weston. I have already recommended him to several of my friends, as well as a number of strangers who found out how old I actually am. ;)
