How it works
- Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
- This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
- Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
- Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.
If you have questions or believe we should re-evaluate a published review, let us know.

BEWARE - Laser Resurfacing is More Than Skin Deep
I wish I had seen this review before I had my J-plasma treatment. The very same thing is happening to me. Told the procedure was very safe and the results would be fantastic, I had the procedure done in the doctor's office with only a halcyon and lidocaine injections. I was fully alert when he started to inject my face. I had told him prior to the procedure that the dentist often needed extra time and lidocaine to numb my mouth.
He did use more lidocaine but did not wait for it to work so I could feel everything . He did mention that it was difficult for him to perform the procedure because I was wincing in pain and trying to raise my hand in defense. The medication did take awhile, in fact, after the procedure was over they handed me over in a wheelchair to my boyfriend who had to physically pick me up and carry me into the nearby hotel where we stayed so the doctor could see me in the morning.
I spent the next three weeks in bed with a bottle of vicodine in an attempt to ease the terrible pain. There was no real peeling as the top layers of my face and tops of my hands had no skin left, my hands charred black like a flame broiled over cooked hamburger.
As the days went by, my face swelled with deep bleeding holes and laser burns cut across my face. Deep red lines across the forehead, sides of my cheeks, cuts around my lips. Marked areas he missed altogether, my eyelids, around my eyebrows, sides of nose and chin. The laser marks were very irregular as the results were areas burned right through resulting in second degree burns and some areas barely reddened. In several areas that are still red without the deep scarring, the spots and wrinkles are all back.
I was told the procedure would be nicely healed in 15 days with mild redness remaining a few more weeks after that. The blistering and bleeding subsided after five weeks and at eight weeks, my face is still bright red with dark red lines. My hands have deep red raised squiggly lines with a melted over scarred look. Not even the best cover all makeup is effective for more than a few hours. My only luck is that we are in the middle of a pandemic and I am required to wear a mask at work.
I thought I had done my due diligence as this doctor was certified in Renuvion J Plasma laser resurfacing. I did recently watch a video of another surgeon performing resurfacing and there was clearly a huge difference between the two. The other surgeon utilized an IV drip, used eye contact shields and a cooling wand. He also used varying degrees of intensity depending on the area, pulse modes around the eyes and for second passes around the lips and chin. My doctor did none of this.
I realize I have several months before I can clearly assess the damage to my face, much that may be permanent or very costly to fix or improve. For some, it is a non invasive procedure that can restore and revitalize your skin. For others, it is a total nightmare with devastating results - a waste of precious time and money. I wanted to post my story so others know that not all skin types are suitable for laser resurfacing, and pretesting an area first could save you time, money, and heartache. It is not foolproof. I hope you will find my story helpful in making the right decision for you.
