WORTH IT
After doing exhaustive (5-6 months) research, I chose Dr. Phillip Dahane in Reno, NV. I screened many and finally interviewed two other cosmetic surgeons, each with excellent reviews. Dr. Dahane's been performing upper and lower blephs for a long time. I also noticed the number of patients who've come to him to fix other surgeons' botched jobs. Because I am 66 years old, I was also comforted by his working with a hospital, rather than a surgical center. That's just my bias. I'm sure most outside surgical centers are fine, but I just thought at 66, I'd "cover my bases" in case something went wrong and I needed emergency care fast. No problem there! I also chose Dr. Dahane because of his good staff. They were caring, professional and very thorough...something I find way lacking in so many medical offices nowadays. At my intro. appt. I was given gobs of information - ALL of which I read thoroughly and was asked to initial, showing I had read everything. When I came for a second appt., I was informed and prepared to ask anything I hadn't learned so-far. I took this time to let him know that as an African American woman, I occasionally form Keloids. Good thing! He prescribed a scar reducing ointment to use the second week post- op. After my easy surgery -- I was sent home with MORE papers (NO complaints) on after-care, what to expect throughout recovery, week-by-week, and various post op medications, pads, etc. I can be a bear if I think I'm being ignored or rushed and I had NO complaints with this doctor. (In addition, he has a wicked sense of humor, which suits me fine.) The recovery has gone perfectly and I happily used just one pain killer out of my entire bottle. It's been just under two months and all's going swimmingly. I have to believe some of my ease was because I really trusted Dr. Dahane and his staff. I've been reading this forum and am surprised by some of the questions people have after their surgery. This shouldn't happen with a thorough, communicative office. If there's anything you don't understand ASK YOUR DR. BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY! It will pay off. BTW, I didn't quote the cost because I think each pt. has different needs. And going for a surgeon because he/she's a few dollars less is a really bad idea! I WILL say that his cost was right in line with the other surgeons I spoke with. All for now. Good luck to you all!

Kudoes to Dr. Philip Dahan - one year later

It's been 13 months since my upper and lower Bleph with Dr. Dahan of Reno. Am still delighted with the results. I healed beautifully, which is a surprise to me. I'm a 67-year-old light-skinned African American woman with a tendency to keloids after an injury, so I was keeping my fingers crossed that I wouldn't have a mess after my surgery. First of all, Dr. Dahan builds into the surgery, several follow-up appointments to make sure all's well. Secondly, he recommended that I use Bio Corneum, a lotion used to lessen the chance for these pesky raised scars. Post-op summary: no pain, easy healing, no change in eye shape. One-year-later: no scars; NO KELOIDS. Also, since I have fairly smooth skin for my age, I go without makeup, other than mascara and liner. By this time, I'm probably financially ahead from cosmetic savings alone! But seriously, before my surgery, I was using more makeup in an attempt to draw attention away from my saggy upper lids and puffy lower lids. Now, I just don't bother. As from my first posting, I interviewed a number of surgeons before choosing Dr. Dahan and did a lot of research into the Bleph process. Once I chose Dr. Dahan, I came armed with questions, and he invited me to ask more, if I'd forgotten anything. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor, and I couldn't have asked for a better solution to growing old "blues."
