I am one of the lucky people to have gotten invisalign. They of course are very pricey at about $3,500. They are multiple sets of clear trays that you put onto your teeth. Pretty much an alternative to braces is what they are. They are just like a retainer, but straighten out your teeth. Depending on what kind of teeth you have, you switch to a new tray about every two weeks.
My orthodontist is one of the top leading orthodontists that use invisalign, so she gets a discount for every person who gets it. So the price was exactly the same as it would have been if I had gotten braces. I did not want to get braces because all of my friends had them and complained about them all the time. Plus, they are also better for sports so if I got hit in the face with a ball, I wouldn’t have a wire jamming into my lip. I was nervous at first to get them because I had never seen anything like it, and i always thought I would have to get braces.
When I first went to the orthodontist, I had to get my mouth scanned so they could make the trays that would fit my teeth. It only took like 30 minutes and I was out of there. Every appointment that I have had after that has only been about 15 minutes. The next time I went in they had six trays for me. At first the tray was a little tight, but after I slept with them in, they had adjusted my teeth so they were no longer tight, but my mouth hurt. Usually my mouth only hurts on the first day when I switch my invisalign. The only thing you can eat or drink when you have the trays in is water, so you always have to take them out when you eat or drink anything other than water. It is not very pleasant when you are trying to take out your invisalign at school, so I always do it when nobody's watching. I’d have to admit, it does get annoying to have to take them out and put them back in everytime you eat or brush your teeth, but I can see a dramatic difference in how straight my teeth are now to when I first got them.
I would definitely recommend invisalign for any teen who does not want to wear braces, play sports, and wants straighter teeth. Many adults have had it too because you cannot see it when you wear it. My friends that have had it also say that they would recommend invisalign. It takes about the same amount of time as braces and works the exact same. There are just some more advantages of invisalign.
