So I wanna start by telling you all a little bit...
$2,300
So I wanna start by telling you all a little bit about myself. I'm a Hispanic 25 year old female. I recently graduated from Nursing school and I haven't gotten a job yet still applying. I got my tattoo on my left forearm for my birthday July 2016 and instantly regretted it I knew I would because I always said I would get a tattoo but never on my arm and that's where I decided to put my first tattoo? I don't know I just saw a lot of people expressing themselves through tattoos and I wanted to be part of it too. Not even a month after I got it placed I went to seek tattoo removal advice and I had an optimistic outlook that this was temporary and I would be able to get it removed then I got preoccupied with finishing school so I didn't have much time to think about the consequences and it was winter so I always had long sleeve shirts and I seemed to be able to ignore it for the most part. Recently I passed my RN license exam and I had severe anxiety after taking the exam and once I found out I passed I was relieved but then ... the anxiety returned and its from this mistake I made on impulse! I have no one to blame but myself I should of thought things more thoroughly before doing it. I haven't been able to sleep, eat and sometimes I can't stop shaking. My heart sinks when I look at my arm and think of what I should of done instead but what's done is done and I need to find a way of coping with it. I would love to be able to remove it but I've only seen a few real success stories and others are faded away for a cover up and I don't want to cover it I want it gone! I've felt like a different person and my depression has set it heavily I feel ugly and masculine and I go in and out of acceptance daily. I don't know if any of you have the same feeling but my tattoo burns idk if it's my mind thinking too much about it and it's reacting to my thoughts so it's constantly reminding me that it's there even if I have it covered. I want to find things that distract me but I have little energy and sometimes I go with only 4 hours of sleep. I've lost about 8 lbs in a very unhealthy way and I'm worried I'm going to have a mental breakdown. I recently found out about this website and it's been so helpful to know I'm not alone and it helps me deal with this anxiety but only for a short period of time before it starts creeping up on me again. Well thanks for reading this if you made it to the end I greatly appreciate you taking the time to listen. ???????? staying hopeful

The research
So I've been doing extensive research about the different lasers and there is not enough evidence to show that picosecond lasers are more effective at removing tattoos than those Q switch lasers. Some days I feel optimistic and hopeful but other days I feel extremely discouraged. I really want to start treatment with a specific laser and I've had multiple consultations but all seem too good to be true. I keep thinking what if I take my time removing this thing and only do 1-2 treatments/ year maybe it will decrease side effects (hypo/hyper pigmentation) and increase removal of the ink. This is just a thought that keeps me going. It's going to be an extremely slow process but I feel that I'll have better results it's either take my time taking it off or keep it without attempting to remove it. I would like other opinions about the research they have done. Not just the advertising 'research' actual scholarly research.

Hi I'm in exactly the same position - my tattoo is 6 weeks old but on my collarbone and shoulder I can't do anything I'm so depressed and have experienced the same feelings as you I feel so stupid and annoyed at myself I don't know what to do - I'm booked in for picosure laser but don't wanna end up worse although not sure I can live with this tattoo either have you decided what your going to do ?

I had a very long and relieving conversation with my mom and my brother and expressed to them all of my feelings. They are my strongest support including my husband and they said we will find the right answer with time and patience. Just like you I don't want it to be worse than it is so I want to take my time making a decision and if that means taking a couple of years to think about it and do the research then that's what I'll have to do. I'm putting my faith in god (wasn't very religious before) and I know that I will get past this with the help of my family.

There actually is. Its not just effectiveness it's side effects. I have had both lasers on me and nanosecond lasers generate more heat and can damage the skin. Photo acoustic vs photothermal.

Also if you do treatments every 10-12wks you will be fine! Just start getting it off now and you can focus on your career!!

Have u started the laser removal?
I want to start now so I can be finished with it sooner but I don't want to make another mistake like getting the tattoo so I want to make sure the laser/facility I go to is going to be the best for me and my removal.
April 9, 2017
Yes! I actually fly to my tattoo removal treatments so I feel you on being picky about the facility haha. Being in Cali hopefully you'll find someone close. Also, California has very strict sanctions on who can operate a laser, so hopefully you'll find someone experienced with a Picoway or Picosure (:

Your tattoo is pretty light and doesn't look deep. Might as well start the journey now and be one step closer to being rid of it!

Don’t you dare try to cover it- this will only make it so much harder to remove dish the track. Cover ups like this are never ever successful!

Consultation with Enlighten
I had a consultation with a Dr who uses the Enlighten by Cutera. It seems like a promising laser and when I start removal I'll probably go there. I'm still doing my research and looking through everyone's reviews to find the best option. My consultation turned into an interview lol he wants me to work for him and do tattoo removal myself! I'm considering taking his offer so that I can get behind the scenes information regarding tattoo removal but that's not my career choice. We'll see maybe I can do that as a part time? Has anyone heard about the Enlighten laser and does it work better than the picosure?

I've heard it is an equivalent to picoway

April 22, 2017
Yowza, time to start the process so you can start moving on. Your tat is nothing to worry about in terms of removals. Your skin will be fine with either the enlighten or picoway. I would avoid the picosure for reasons you already know. You should be able to get full removal with little to no side effects on the skin. Sure, tat removal isnt perfect. But you shouldn't have many problems with that tattoo at all. Good luck, and start the process! You'll feel better my friend.

April 22, 2017
Thank you I'm feeling a lot better now than I was a couple weeks ago. I also feel like it's not a "difficult" tattoo to remove I just need to find the right location. I won't start removal until the winter since summer just started here. Until then I'll be shopping around for the perfect location. I have a couple more consultations and I'll make my decision after. Have u started laser treatments? I see you're new to this site so welcome and I hope you find what you're looking for. I've received tremendous support and it's helped me a lot. Best wishes!

Yes, I've had five with the picosure. I've actually been following this site for quite sometime and just recently joined. I do it for research though. I won't be telling my story or posting photos as I feel that reassurance is the worst thing to give someone with tattoo anxiety. It's better to be up front and face the fear, for me at least. But I commented in yours because it looks like a simple tattoo to remove. As far as my experience goes, the picosure has been fine. I've had very little hypopigmentation and it heals up within a few weeks. However, I'm done with it and am moving on to the picoway. The picosure worked well on my light blue and aqua green, and on the light black. But it has not worked very well on the dark black, hence the change to the 1064 picoway. I wish you the best and wouldn't be too concerned about it. If you want to wait the summer that's fine but I felt better once I started. It easy to cover in the summer. The first week I mostly stay inside, after that though I just cover it when I'm outdoors. But that's easier said than done. Mine is on my upper arm and is almost fully covered with a short sleeved shirt. You could order a tattoo cover online if you're interested.

When do you start with the picoway?
I start my new job in May and I'm going on vacation in June so I don't wanna be dealing with the healing process besides I have to save some money and I'm sure the winter will be the best time for me to start .. I have a little plan and I hope it works .. I'll be spreading my treatments apart and take the summers off.. it'll be a long process but I feel that is what's best for me as I've seen successful reviews due to longer wait times and patience.
April 24, 2017
Either should be fine but I think the Picoway might be slightly more powerful. Don't hold me to that though, I think I read it somewhere but I'm unsure.
April 23, 2017
Picoway starts in May. I will keep you updated on the progress, if you want I could possibly send you pics but it would be privately. Yeah I hear long waits are better. I won't wait a long time until I have ten passes or so. You shouldn't have to worry about the healing too much. For me, the blisters pop in two to four days. Then they she'd over the next week and a half. All in all I'm back to normal within two weeks usually. Everyone is different though. 30 year old male, healthy, in good shape, that may be why. For someone in a worse situation I'd assume it would take longer. Just make sure to keep it out of the sun after you start treatment.

April 23, 2017
If you feel comfortable sending pictures if not it's ok .. I'm going to gauge the treatments based on my healing so I'll see how my plan works out .. I'm healthy just need to get back in shape since studying for my boards got to me lol
April 24, 2017
Yeah I can send you pics it's fine. I start May 17th with the Picoway. I would to see how the Enlighten works out for you as well.

April 24, 2017
I have a picoway consultation tomorrow with a test patch .. still trying to figure out which laser is best for me .. I'll post a picture once it's healed
April 24, 2017
Ha, I keep commenting on the wrong thread. Whoops!

April 25, 2017
No you're right I did mention deciding on the Enlighten laser but I had a consultation with test patch with picoway today just to see which laser I fully commit to when I start removal in September

June 18, 2017
It's the same laser from a different seller.
Enlighten is a great choice and your tattoo is super easy to remove. Good luck! :)

Anyways, so within the first couple of weeks I had already had several appointments with a few different tattoo removal clinics. They didn't exactly make me feel very optimistic about the possibility of completely removing the tattoo without a trace. In each appointment I just cried and cried when they asked me "so why do you want to get it removed?" and I tried to explain everything. And with each fee quote I felt so devastated at the prospect of spending $10k for this stupid thing that cost $1500 to get....$10k that could pay for several overseas holidays for my son and I when I haven't had a holiday in almost a decade.
But... (there is a but :)) since then everything has vastly improved for me to the point that I'm quite indifferent to the tattoo now (albeit I still feel uglier with it but it's not overtaking my life). I'm still fixated on getting it removed in due course and definitely don't want to grow old with it (if I had to, I think I'd be significantly less accepting!) but I'm ok enough with it to keep it for a few years until the tattoo removal technology improves a bit more (looking at the rate of change in tattoo removal technology over the last decade or two I'm confident that, if I give it even five years, the cost and results will be much better. If I give it ten years, the technology will be even more better).
These are the ways of thinking that have helped me so maybe they can help you too:
1. First and foremost, don't forget that you will remove your tattoo. It's not permanent. You don't have to grow old with it. It's just for the moment.
2. Be empowered by your tattoo. In terms of body image, in the current day and age we are so often told (whether that's by society, by magazines, by our employers, etc) how, as women, we should look. Treat your tattoo as a form of reclaiming your body and be proud of it and stick a metaphorical finger up at anyone who wants to judge you or look down on you or treat you as "less than" just because you have a picture on your skin.
3. Similarly, embrace the sense of uniqueness that comes from having that tattoo. You're still you. But now you just have a little bit of extra uniqueness on display.
4. Remember that your design is not offensive and it won't age. If you have to grow into an old tattooed lady, you can't get much less offensive and timeless as flowers.
5. As you walk through the street, look at other people with similarly inoffensive tattoos. Do you judge them? Do you think less of them? Do you think anything at all? Or do you just think "oh ok, cool" and move on with your day? I think nothing of them and equally other people will think nothing of your tattoo (at least nothing negative).
6. Again, as you walk through the street, look at all the other people that have tattoos, whether they're inoffensive, offensive or whatever. There are a lot! Nowadays tattoos are extremely common. You don't stick out (in a bad way) like you might think you do.
7. Think about all the things you're grateful for. Like be grateful for the fact that, in comparison to a much bigger tattoo, yours is quite small (similarly, although mine is big, I can be grateful I quit while I was ahead rather than proceeding to get two arm sleeves). And be grateful for the fact that you got it on the inside of your arm (I've got one on the inside of my other arm and it's a much better position than the outside). Be grateful you picked black and white (much easier to remove), and not colour. Be grateful that your tattoo is nice and very feminine.
8. It's just skin and you've only got one life. Don't waste it just because of something relatively minor like a bit of art on your skin.
9. Just in case you forgot the most important one, I'll say it again: it isn't permanent. You can remove it! On top of black and white being easiest to remove, you've also got good skin colour for total tattoo removal.
Don't hide from the world. Don't let it impact your life. In my 20s I hid from living my life simply because I was so preoccupied with my weight and fearful that people would think I was fat. Tattoo regret I think is a bit like that. You could let it impact your life or you could just accept it and keep on living, not letting it impact your life. Just stick it in the backseat of your mind and, if it pops up and starts to impact things, remind yourself you'll get it removed eventually and then get back to thinking about other things.
Anyways, that's my advice! Big hugs and best wishes xx
