My recovery revision rhinoplasty
My recovery revision rhinoplasty
I am writing this review so people considering this procedure ill have some information about what recovery is like.
I realize this is how I experienced this; and everone has a different pain tolerance, etc...
Ok her we go! I finally (after 3 years of research) decided to move forward with my revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Umang Mehta; one of the most talented, experienced rhinoplasty surgeons n the bay area, CA.
Day 0: Home from surgery April 1st 2021: no pain yet; just really horrible post nasal drip and sore throat; nothing seems to help:(
Day 1: Cried a few times, moderate pain despite taking extra strength Tylenol every 4 hours. Have not slept at all. Caved in and took the oxycodone (I hesitated because I get nauseated easily and did not want to vomit). This was an emotional day... my entire face hurts; have. Severe eyeball headache and my upper teeth really hurt; eyes re swelling and are hard to keep them open. All I want is soup, this helps my sore throat. Again not much sleep.
Day 2: Really over the constant eyeball head ache and tooth pain; even oxycodone is not helping. The nasal saline lushes (5-6 times per day) are helping the post nasal drip. Bleeding has stopped so I don't need the drip pad under my nose.
Nasal stents inside my nostrils are really uncomfortable:( Got about 5 hours of sleep.
Day 3: Finally feeling a little better; less constant pain; just intermittent. Eyeball headache still present Still taking Tylenol and oxycodone regularly. Post nasal drip is much better. Still only want soup.
Slept 6 hours
Day 4: Dr. Mehta offers to take my internal stents out today (early); I was sooo happy about this. I couldn't tolerate the oral antibiotic and he id not want me to get a sinus infection.
Got the stents out; it was panful and alot of odd pressure when the nurse pulled them out. But so much happier; and I can breath better already!!!
Slept like a baby:) Starting to feel glad I went through with this.
Day 5: Best day so far. Now sutures are painful occasionally.. like this stabbing/bee sting kind of pain. Nose tip tickles/tingles and splint (external) is itchy!!!! Feel up to some light gardening and out to dinner:) I get my external splint off tomorrow!!!
Can't wait! Will update more later.

Feel free to ask me any questions.
Just some other things to expect that you may not think of.
Finding a comfortable way to ice your eyes is difficult. What worked best for me was a soft small washcloth I put in the freezer. Also dipping a square gauze in water a freezing several and placing over each eyeball.
You will not be able to open you mouth very wide; so sticking to soup is best at first. And drinking from a straw is best for me.
Hope this helps!!
